WIFI wont connect after 8.1 update

    Hi

I have just installed 8.1 on my laptop and now my wifi card wont connect to the network. My PC works on wifi just fine.

My laptop is a Lenovo G405 using a 802.11n Broadcom card.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

You may need to update the Broadcom driver from the Lenovo site directly via the link below. Just set the Op system to Windows 8.1 and the Category to Networking: Wireless LAN.

Hopefully this is a different driver version than the one you are currently using.

    Hi and thank you.
I installed the new driver, but still no connection. It seems that whenever I make a security settings change on my routers page then the wifi will connect for a while and then it will refuse to connect again after some hours.

It's sometimes required to remove the old profiles by running the following command in an elevated command prompt. After that create a new wireless profile with the correct security settings etc.

If you change any security settings on the router then that will effect any wireless profile that is currently connected to the router. Just stick with WPA2, AES encryption and don't change the settings on the router once the wireless profile is created.

    Code:
netsh wlan delete profile name=* i=*

They really need to fix this mess and bring back the old Wireless Manager like Windows 7 had.

Do a complete uninstall of the driver & adapter on the machine in question. Download the driver for the adapter from Lenovo's support site for your version of 8.1 (if 32-bit of course download the 32-bit driver. 64-bit, download the 64-bit driver). Then after you reboot, open up Explorer and browse to the USB pen drive. Then run the installer for the device driver for your wifi adapter.

Before doing all of this, you will need to have Device manager open. It should show at first an unknown device. Once you install the driver, it should look like it is updating the Device Manager window and then show the WiFi adapter under "Network Adapters".

If it shows the adapter installed, but still no networks available, make sure that it is enabled . May need to use the Function Key, or there may be a physical switch on your laptop to engage or disengage the adapter.

Everytime I uninstall the drivers and card and reboot they automatically reinstall, any suggestions?

I'm a bit confused with this statement. Are you saying that when you mess with the security settings on the router it causes this machine to magically connect for some reason? Where before this new driver it would not connect?

If the router appears to be causing strange connection problems then it's advised that you update the firmware on the router to the latest version and use WPA2 security with AES encryption.

I was also under the impression that the driver which I posted a link to was updated the first time you tried?

I only need to use the browse option in order to browse to the new driver, just right click on the wireless NIC in Device Manger, choose "update driver software" choose/click "Browse my computer for driver software" click the browse button in the next window, browse to the location where you have downloaded the driver and install from there.

I'm pretty sure everyone else does this the same way and there is no install driver or software only option with this driver.

You have to click the box that states that you wish to driver software also. Otherwise Windows will reinistall the device.
