I'd say that USB modem connections do not show up where you are showing.

If you want to see the actual connection try typing ipconfig/all into an elevated command prompt, there you will see your actual connection with the IP address showing.

There are tutorials and software for this all over the internet. Google, Bing etc. come in handy for this.

Using the Connectify software or virtual router software are good places to start but you can also set up a hosted wireless network using netsh commands.

If you are using a USB modem to connect to Dial-up Internet services, it will never show up in that screen. It should show up as a PPPoE connection in Internet Options and/or Phone or Modem.

It is easier to just get a router that gives you the ability of connecting a modem to it. Also helps to know who the provider you are connecting to for Dial-up Internet service.

The way you would do it normally, is setup a machine as a "Server" that uses the modem for connection. Then have it connected to a switch so you can use the "Server" as a way to "Bridge the connection to the others through ICS "Internet Connection Sharing".

ICS is about the worse way of sharing, due to you are dependent on one machine acting like a router, along with that no one is expected to use it.

If you post who your Internet dial-up provider is. Maybe we can suggest better options to be able to share that connection, which is going to be slow as Molasses anyways.

Actually the problem is when i am running windows 8 app diagnostic tool, it says u r not connected to the internet. and some of my apps are not able to access internet even though they are allowed to use in permissions section.

If it is Metro Apps, you may want to check PC Settings. The Diagnostic tool will state that, due to it is not seeing a Ethernet or Wireless connection, even though you are connected via PPPoE through the USB modem.

I like a lot of others, have not dived into the Metro part of Windows 8.x, due to we would like to see that it goes away. Scratch that, it is with Update 1, when that comes out in April.

I did a search, and looks like this was discussed on the Microsoft Answers forums. See Windows 8 App not connecting to internet - Microsoft Community

This seemed to be the fix (Copied from the link):

Finally I got a work around myself, and I'm sure it will work for most of you people too, do this:-

    Install Fiddler 4 Beta
    1) It has a new new toolbar item "Win 8 Config" feature called "AppContainer Loopback Exemptions Utility"
    2) Click "Exempt All" and then click "Save Changes"

I do not know about the Fiddler 4 Beta, so be careful on that. You can get Fiddler from Majorgeeks.com Download Fiddler - MajorGeeks This is the description on it:

    "

Fiddler is a Web Debugging Proxy which logs all HTTP(S) traffic between your computer and the Internet. Fiddler allows you to inspect traffic, set breakpoints, and "fiddle" with incoming or outgoing data. Fiddler includes a powerful event-based scripting subsystem, and can be extended using any .NET language.

Fiddler is freeware and can debug traffic from virtually any application that supports a proxy, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and thousands more. You can also debug traffic from popular devices like Windows Phone, iPod/iPad, and others.

    Limitations:
Requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0+ installed for Windows XP, Vista and 7 or Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5+ for Windows 8.1+."

Looking through some searches, it appears that you are not alone on USB modems not playing nice with the Metro Interface on Windows 8.x.

That is a problem with a different solution.

On the modem's firmware settings, Try changing NDIS to RAS (modem), this has fixed the problem for all apps so far.

The modem i am using works on EVDO and is locked by ISP, so can't find any option to change settings from NDIS to RAS.
