No search on mapped network folders

I have three machines running windows 8.1 pro at home. On one machine, search will not work in windows explorer. I had no problem mapping the drives, and the contents show up fine when I browse to individual folders or files. I can access and play media files just fine. But no matter what you type into the search box, nothing is found. Text file, media file, system file: nothing. I am looking at all the folders in explorer, and if one is named "three", I can type three into the box and nothing is highlighted or found. Search works fine for attached drives.

How can I go about diagnosing and resolving this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Apparently Windows 7 had the same type of problem, maybe some of the suggestions that worked for Windows 7 will work for you.

Thanks. I already did that, but consider it a work-around rather than a complete solution. For example, I can create a link to my video library on the desktop and it is, in fact, searchable when opened in explorer.

But a simple link to the mapped folder on the networked drive, opens the folder, and lets me view and/or play or open the files on the drive, but search is inoperable. It works fine on two other machines, which have the same OS and are running the same programs, but not on the subject machine, and, yes, the folders are libraried on the other machines as well, but search works in all respects.

I see 3 different options in the link but I'm not sure which one you were referring to as the work around?

Sorry, I was referring the post which suggested adding the folders to a library. That was simple. In fact I had already done it. Search works when you search from the library folder, and that solved the immediate problem. I would like to figure out why search does not work on the mapped network drives when searching with windows explorer, like it does on two other machines.

I have found that 8.1 forgets about other devices on the network, along with mapped drives. Windows 7 never had as many issues as 8.x does.
