Windows not auto detecting proxy settings

So I'm rolling along the internet and I start noticing that the wifi bars in the lower corner have gone down to 4. My internet is running slower and when I log on and play online games, the local server which gave me a 50 ping is now jumped up to about 300-800 easily...

So I run trouble shooter (and malware bytes) and this gem pops up:

"Windows cannot automatically detect this network's proxy settings."

Honestly navigating windows 8 is a nightmare at best...and I just want to play an online game without lagging out and finding myself dead, please someone help me.

I run google chrome as my internet browser, but as of late Norton has been blocking chrome and my wife started using Internet Explorer...but when we disable Norton, Chrome works fine. Hope that helps.

every firewall I have is off, nothing has changed.

Is this because I'm using wifi?

Same advice I give to all the masses always involving any Norton product.

Uninstall it, use the tool they offer to remove it as well, then set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too.

Scan the machine weekly with Malwarebytes. Don't click on random stuff unless you yourself solicited it. Don't open links in e-mails unless you absolutely trust the sender. Things like that. Don't update anything because a webpage tells you to, especially Flash. Always visit only FileHippo.com to update Flash for Firefox or Opera and only Windows Update to update Flash for IE.

Recommend Firefox strongly over any other browser.

    You don't have a proxy.

Is internet working well? Obviously yes, since you are downloading, right?

    How's the game(s)?

Internet is working fine, still only 4 bars...happened a few days ago.

The game (warthunder) was fine two days ago, now my ping has shot through the roof...and windows still gives me the proxy error message.
