Hello,

I've recently begun encountering connectivity problems. Seemingly randomly, the wifi connection becomes limited and webpages/games time out. Whenever I repair the connection it is always at the "reset wi-fi adapter" step that it seems to resolve the issue.

Steps I've taken thus far are:

  1. uncheck the box under my network adapters settings that said "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
  2. show hidden devices under the network adapter device manager and try to uninstall all but my ethernet and wifi connections. aside from these two connections I wanted to keep, there were two bluetooth devices that I don't use/need, two adapters hidden with odd names, and quite a few WAN miniports. I tried uninstalling all of these...some uninstalled, others uninstalled but came back with a restart, and some wouldn't uninstall at all

I'm not even sure if any of this is actually helping my own issue; I simply tried to do some research before reaching out for help myself...and these seemed to be common steps that were suggested from folks on this very forum.

Anyway, below is my ipconfig:

You'll fix it.

Install latest wireless driver from Ultrabook, SmartPhone, Laptop, Desktop, Server, & Embedded? Intel if not already latest now, update security software to latest version if not already, update router firmware to latest if not already, then use Vistumbler to see which channel is the most open and clear, away from other channels. Set your router radio channel to that.

You could lower the beacon interval some, in the router settings. I keep mine at 50 ms.

RTS Threshold = 2307
Fragmentation = 2306

Microwave ovens and home wireless phones (not smart phone type - landline type) can interfere. Move your router away from those if possible.

Make sure nobody is sitting outside your house in a car trying to do a man-in-the-middle attack (a.k.a. monkey-in-the-middle) on the wireless, lol. :)

lol why not trust Vistumbler? It is an excellent software and trusted widely throughout the enthusiast community. It's the most important step of the above.

Because I've never heard of it before and don't understand its purpose. Not saying I won't but still reading up on what it does, etc, at the moment. Any other things to try in the meanwhile?

I'm not on a wireless machine right now, but I think you just click on Scan APs near top left. It should show you all the routers near your location and their channels.

I found (what I hope) is the most clear transmit channel for my router and changed it to that. I've also changed the RTS to 2307 and Frag to 2306. Am I also supposed to change my beacon interval to 50 ms? If so, I did not see where to do that at. Otherwise, I believe I've followed all suggestions and will proceed with crossing my fingers. I'll report with a (hopefully!) final report asap.

Yes, you should change beacon interval to 50 ms and I doubt that your router does not have the option to do so.

If you can't find it or it doesn't have it, it's not the end of the world. Should be good to go in any case, based on what you've said.

Best of luck and cool about report.

It's still having the same issue.

Chev is one of the best networking Gurus going. You should probably offer the information he asks for.

In addition, have mdnsresponder.exe in the Task Manager, or Bonjour in services.msc?

Maybe this will shed further insight?

When the problem arose yet again, I had limited connectivity to my network. I ran the troubleshooter and this is what came back.

Done.

From this it appear this system hasn't been upgraded to Windows 8.1?

To test the connection problem isn't caused from an installed program you should try performing a clean start up per the directions in the link.

Updating to 8.1 now. Is it possible this could resolve the issue and I should test it out after this update is done, or should I go ahead and proceed with the clean start link as soon as update completes?

It's very possible that the update will fix the problem because all system files and the registry would be replaced but if the problem persists then run the clean start up and go from there. :)

It's been three days since updating Windows and getting a new registry/etc, and it's still happening. Granted a bit less often, but still multiple times a day...I'd even say at least once every three hours; and that's being generous. Having a desktop that is plugged in via ethernet and has zero problems whatsoever doesn't help shed any further light on the matter, does it?

Anyway, I'm beginning the clean start process now. Anything else I should know or expect or try before posting again?
