Hi,

During Win 8 install, I declined the SkyDrive options.
I have not installed the local client SkyDrive software..
I have been to the SkyDrive settings in Win8, TTBOMK, they are all OFF.

When I click on a weblink to download a file, it take me to SkyDrive.!
I'm baffled why it's not bringing up the regular save box.?

Any ideas.?

Thanks... Dave

Skydrive is part of windows 8/8.1 and as far as I know, you can't opt out or decline Skydrive. Once the OS is installed you might be able to turn off or disable skydrive.

Like I said, Skydrive is inherent to windows 8/8.1 and there nothing you can do about it. Not like in windows 7 where you could install the cloud based storage drive or uninstall it at will.

Now for your download destination, that is changed in your browser settings. Which browser are you using?

I'm using Chrome, download location is set to D:\Temp\Downloads
The minute I click a link, bang I'm presented with the SkyDrive page

Dude, I'm at a loss. I've checked my skydrive in file explorer, skydrive app and skydrive that's linked to Outlook.com and I can't find a single setting that's even remotely related to download location or saving it to skydrive. Nothing. I'm still scouring the net for something...so far I coming up empty to your issue.

After some more Googling issue resolved with editing Registry:
> Removing SkyDrive from the Explorer shell
Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8E74D236-7F35-4720-B138-1FED0B85EA75}\ShellFolder.
Edit the DWORD value From f08004d to f09004d change the 8 to 9

> Adding a SkyDrive entry to "Disable" it, no entry means it is enabled default
Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Skydrive
You may need to create the Skydrive folder here.
If you do, right-click on Windows and select New > Key and name it Skydrive.
Right-click on SkyDrive and select New > Dword (32-bit value) and name it DisableFileSync.
Double-click the new parameter and change its value to 1.
Sign out and back in again.

Now I click a link, and normal save box appears. :)

Now to fix some annoying errors in the event log

Thanks BassFisher

Damn...nice find. I took a brake to watch the NFL playoff games. Both teams I wanted to win, they lost.
