Network sharing for C required for Oracle Installation

    Hello everybody,

I was installing Oracle Database Software and in the wizard, before the installation started, I encountered an error "[FATAL] [INS-30131] The initial setup that is required to run the installation program validation was not successful."

I searched the internet and I found out one solution (possible) to my problem i.e. to enable the sharing for C drive. I was asked to issue the following command:

    net use \\localhost\c$

But that gave me an error "system error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found.". So if any of you guys know an appropriate solution to my problem, please do reply.

Dear Mileshead, thank you for your reply.

I did check the link and I really am confused with what to do.
I have turned off the file and printer sharing for my connections (private, public, home etc.) for security and I have not joined any homegroup.

I have Windows 8.1 Pro. Can you please narrow down the steps for me. Thank you for your time.

To share C drive just add check marks for the authenticated User per the Security tab, the first set of pictures in the link below shows how to share the C drive.

You would also need to go into the Sharing tab and enable sharing there as well for the C drive.

You definitely will need to turn on Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing in the Advanced sharing settings.

Did you run your net use \\localhost\c$
    In an elevated command prompt.?
Elevated Command Prompt - Open in Windows 8

    see if that works.?
