Hi guys,

The network and sharing center shows that i have internet access but i cannot surf the internet. This problem only happens to this laptop and only happens when i am in the living room. The router is in the living room while i have another router acting as a universal repeater in my room. In my room, i have no problem surfing the internet. When i off the universal repeater though, i cannot surf anymore. Same problem happens with IE. Any advice will be appreciated :D

If you can connect through the repeater and not through the router then the network router/repeater probably isn't set up correctly.

Pretty difficult to figure this out from my end, I'd need to see a separate ipconfig/all when connected to both the repeater and the router I assume which isn't working. You do have some strange entries for DNS which do not look right.

Hi,

Thx for the quick reply. This is the ipconfig from the repeater. Thanks for the help. Problem is this issue only occurs to this laptop and not my other laptops so just wondering if it could do with the network card of this laptop.

From this I can see a problem with the DNS servers. The second ipconfig shows valid DNS servers where the first ipconfig shows DNS servers that aren't valid. The IP is the same in both cases.

You might want to remove the DNS entries from the IPv4 properties. There is no reason to input the DNS servers in IPv4 and in most cases you would be better off typing valid DNS servers into the routers settings for DNS.

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 2404:e800:3::16 < invalid DNS
2404:e800:103::16 < invalid DNS
2404:e800:103::6 < invalid DNS
202.156.1.16
218.186.2.16

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 202.156.1.16
218.186.2.16
218.186.2.6
218.186.2.6 < these are valid DNS servers but you should remove them from IPv4 properties and use only the main router for DNS, this will show up as the routers default gateway of 192.168.0.1

It looks like a DNS problem from my end.

Hi,

Thanks for the help. I upped you previously. Sorry for sounding like a newbie. How do you remove the DNS servers cause my IPV4 is set to automatic obtain DNS?

Thanks

Well if you didn't input the DNS servers it must be picking them up from someplace else.

If the problem only occurs on one machine when it connects to the repeater then it could be a driver problem.

The Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 wireless adaptor seems to be using a non WHQL driver, if the driver was Windows tested WHQL driver then I should be seeing the Msoft WiFi direct virtual adaptor but since it is missing the driver isn't the best one to use.

Have you updated this system to Windows 8.1 yet? In either case the driver in the link below is the only one available.
