ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) for Xbox Live on Win8.

Okay, so in Windows 7 I am able to connect my wireless to my phone, and run an ethernet cable over to my Xbox. If I use the ICS feature and configure it under services to allow ports 88 and 53 UDP, it works fine. This also allows my Xbox to seemingly add to this list of ports as it finds neccessary.

The issue is however, with Windows 8, although I can connect to Xbox Live the same way, it does not seemingly allow the Xbox to add more ports that it deems neccessary. This leads to that NAT error message that I am actually trying to do this as a way to bypass it.

In Windows 7 this only works if the connection is set to Home (not sure about Work), but not public. I'm curious if the reason this does not work in Windows 8 is that Windows 8 does not have a Home option, but rather only Private or Public settings. I'm curious if anyone can shed some light on this or if there is some small setting buried deep somewhere that I just need to change to treat it like Windows 7 allows Xbox to treat home networks and configure/add ports automatically.

Diamondwolf, did you get a result on this? - I'm having connectivity problems too (though I have to say my 360 won't connect to either win7hp or 8.1 internet connection sharing laptops.)

I'm using a usb tether to my all-you-can-eat data plan 3 mobile but though internet works on the laptops, I cant get the xbox online.

Thnx

I have not had the chance to look into it more as Ic'm out of state for the Army. was gonna look into it more when i got back. you may have to double check and add those ports i mentioned plus port 3074 UDP under the ics settings.

sorry for typos on a phone

No worries..

I got mine sorted. I downloaded a freeware tweaker called DrTCP though googling will show you you can do the tweaks through an elevated command prompt. With this app I put the MTU level up to 1400 and now the xbox connects, though now I have a stability problem but this is purely a network coverage issue with my carrier.

Good luck
