'Can't connect to network' wireless connection issues

    Hello,

So I have a brand new computer (home build) running Windows 8.1 and a brand spanking new USB wireless adapter (Trendnet N300 dual band). I installed the adapter from its disc on Friday and used it fine all night. Wake up Saturday and I'm getting 'limited connection' when connected to my home router.

After a lot of playing, updating the drivers for the adapter, updating Windows, playing i n command prompt...it now won't connect to the router at all.

I'm currently connecting via a bridged ethernet connection to my Macbook.

Extensive googling just isn't turning up a solution, and if anything seems to have made it worse seeing as the adapter can't even connect to the router now! This also seems to be a common problem with Windows 8.1?

Thanks for any help, I am really at my wit's end!

If you can connect to your router via ethernet, go to your router's admininstrator page, usually : http://192.168.1.1/
There should be a setting to change your wifi channel : try 1, 6 or 11. There might also be an option to restart your wifi connection from the router, use it.

Unfortunately I can't as I'm in rented accommodation and I'm downstairs from the router. I could connect via my laptop if absolutely necessary but would prefer to explore options without going upstairs to my landlord's part of the house and getting in his way! I should have stated that in my first post, sorry!

As I see it since it first worked for hours without problems for you, and stopped on saturday (when neighbors might have started using their own wireless connections, or other mobile hardware like phone/bluetooth, etc...), it's probably a problem of channel. If so, there's nothing else you can do except try and move your pc/adapter as close as possible to the router.

Are you able to connect to internet wirelessly via the same router on your laptop ?

I'll ask my landlord if we can try changing the channel. Thanks
