hey guys, new here. been having this problem for over a month now, I think it happened when i switched from windows 8 to windows 8.1.

Try connecting to wifi network, it takes a long time and finally I get a "can't connect to this network"

I have extensively used google with no luck. I have no problem connecting at home, but at work it is now impossible.

Again, I'm new to this forum, if I am missing some information for you guys I appologize in advance and will post what you guys need.

thanks,
Paul

Hi Glock,

  • Please copy & paste the following into notepad.
  • Code:
    netsh wlan show all >%userprofile%\Desktop\Network.txt
    sc query dhcp >>%userprofile%\Desktop\Network.txt
    sc query dnscache >>%userprofile%\Desktop\Network.txt
    sc query wlansvc >>%userprofile%\Desktop\Network.txt
    ipconfig /all >>%userprofile%\Desktop\Network.txt
    netsh advfirewall show global >>%userprofile%\Desktop\Network.txt
    netsh winhttp show proxy >>%userprofile%\Desktop\Network.txt
  • Save the file as "Network.bat"
  • Right click the file and select Run as Administrator.
  • This will create a file called "Network.txt" on the desktop.
  • Copy & paste the contents into your next post.

Hi ectech,

I have made the file on my laptop (currently at work, using my co-workers mac) if I can find a USB stick to transfer the file to this computer I will post asap. Worst off I will be able to post once I get home and have a connection on my personal laptop.
thanks for the patience,
Paul

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Is there any reason why windows did not prompt me for this driver? I have checked for updates around the clock and it said everything was up to date. Installing now, will try it at work tomorrow and hopefully this will work.

If you are into bitcoins, I would love to send you a small donation (about 50$ worth) for your much appreciated help.

sadly i cannot (i work as a power engineer in a hospital) i'll try to contact the IT guy (if we have one) see if he can perform a bard reset. in a very secluded area up north, hard to get IT guys here.

on a side note, before i started having the original problem i would get limited connection a lot. maybe its one of those days. sorry, and thanks a bunch for the help

Most public places require you accept the terms of service before connecting to the network.

Open Internet Explorer after connecting to see if their is an agreement page.

just tried, no agreement or anything. just says "you're not connected to a network"

still on limited connection. if i run a diagnose it says "wifi doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

What is the name of the wireless network?

Have you ever successfully connected to it?

name is "wi-fi" i have successfully connected since i started working here in March. some days it would go to limited for anywhere from 10min to a day. my co-worker is able to connect as we speak.

diagnostics says wifi does not have valid IP configuration.

Press :winkey: + X > select Command Prompt (Admin) > copy & paste
Code:
netsh wlan delete profile name=*
into command prompt > press enter.

Try connecting to the wireless network again.

The other option it to manually set the IP address. Let me know..
