I assume the WindowsEight forums are WindowsEightPointOne also.

I was very reluctant to convert from 8 to 8.1 but a couple of friends kept needling me about pointless concern. They assured me the conversion would be smooth as silk with no problems. Well, no.

Since the conversion my wife's win7 computer can not longer use the printer on my Win8.1 machine. I've been unable to figure out where I go to share the printer with the network. Most places say it happens automatically. Well, no.

The printer was working before the conversion and still shows up on her computer since the conversion. It was set as her default printer and showed up this way in Word and other apps. Also, she could choose it in all apps. But, when you tried to print it would say "Access Denied." I did everything I could think of and finally removed the printer from her machine and tried to reinstall it. When I did that it asked for the username and password. When I gave it that it said "Credentials Insufficient."

The FAX modem no longer works either, but the printer is the most urgent problem. Boy, do I regret going to 8.1

You will want to uninstall then reinstall the printer drivers on the Windows 8.1 machine.

Also turn on Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing in the Advanced settings at the Network and Sharing center.

I'm not sure why you would be having credential problems but if you had a Homegroup set up then try leaving the Homegroup on both machines then create a new one and rejoin.
