    default gateway is not available.

Hi there I recently purchased a new computer and while trying to acess the internet I find that I can have a stable connection for no longer than 20 seconds. After that the network becomes unavailable and when I try to repair it I continue to get the error default gateway is unavailable.

Welcome to the forum draconith! Let's start with you posting your ipconfig /all from an administrator command prompt.

If you put the model number of your laptop in your system specs in profile, will help with known driver issues also.

And just so you don't have to go back to my profile to find it my computer is an asus g750jw laptop. Also it's worth noting that this is only happening on my router at home and not on other routers. I have cablevision for my isp and have their 50 mbps upload speed and 25 mbps download speed.

    This is my modem

As an update: took the computer to best buy because thats where I bought it this morning, didnt even get halfway through describing my problem and the geek squad member said she knew exactly whats going wrong. Apparently for windows 8 there is a driver called Kernal in networks which is supposed to speed up your network but does the exact opposite. She removed it from my computer. I'm not home to test this fix out yet, but I will update as soon as I get home and get connected to the internet.

The fix described above did not work alone, I had to install a new driver to go with it for the broadcomm card in my computer and now it's working perfectly.
