Windows 8.1 Wifi: "Default gateway not available"

    Hi there,

Ever since Windows 8.1, whenever I try to access a network it will connect for a few minutes, then stop working and give me the "limited connectivity" error. When I run the troubleshooter, I usually get the message "the default gateway is not available" and that makes it work for a few minutes but it does the same thing again. I have tried almost every solution known to the Google searches and nothing has been working.

    My specs are:

    MSi CX-61
    i5-3230M processor
    Nvidia GeForce 730M/ 2GB DDR3
    6GB DDRIII(L) RAM
    Intel Centrino Wireless N-135 adapter
    Windows 8.1 x64bit

    Thank you.

Have you tried installing the new Windows 8.1 drivers for the Intel N-135 directly from the Intel site.

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...Wireless-N+135

If this driver doesn't work then let me know which router you are using and post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all and I will have a look at it.

Is this problem occurring with every network that you have connected to?

From what I have read the Intel connection software is the problem but the driver works. So you need to allow Microsoft to handle the connection part. Read the link which explains the problem and how to fix it.

Here is how to fix the problem: I've found the fix for that. Install Intel PROSet/Wireless, then right-click on it in tray and choose "Use Windows to manage Wi-Fi". As long as Windows manages Wi-Fi, everything is great.
Absolutely no problems after that, except in very rare cases PROSet takes control back (you just have to repeat this action). Also, you can use "Reset PROSet" instead of disabling/enabling adapter.

I already have installed PROSet/Wireless. Though I cannot find the tray icon.

I'm not completely sure where that setting is although the driver file can have both files one with just the driver and one that has both.

This is a typical problem with the vendors connection software not working as well as the Windows connection software.

You can usually remove or uninstall just the connection software which should help.
