Thanks for the reply, MasterChief. I don't think it's a "100% cpu" issue but I'm not sure. Will try to keep an eye on that.

Interesting regarding your "master browser" suggestion ... I will also take a look at that.

I also wonder if it may be related to "selective suspend" being enabled. I disabled it a few minutes ago and so far so good, but I won't know for sure for a few hours. I will reply again then and will try your suggestions if disabling selective suspend doesn't fix the issue.

    Thanks again!

Not just the network adaptor but any one of those settings could cause problems like the hard disk power saver.

I've seen this type of problem when the hard drive was going bad as well.

I never figured out how to solve the issue. I got around the problem by using ethernet cable instead of WiFi on the affected computer.

@MasterChief: It might be that the computer uses 100 % CPU. The computer is a tiny Intel NUC computer, so it doesn't take much work before the CPU is going full speed. If that is the problem, do you have any solution for it?

I didn't understand the part you wrote about setting the "master browser". All the other computers on the network can connect to each other, so I guess the failing computer isn't the master browser.

By the way, I did actually reinstall Windows 8.1 as well, and didn't help either.

Hi all: Thanks again for all of the suggestions ... I wanted to update this thread with my "solution". Unfortunately, nothing worked (and I did try all of the above suggestions including disabling selective suspend for all possible devices). So I finally caved and, like bjarteao, connected the computer via ethernet rather than wi-fi and now it works perfectly.

Because this is a router problem:/ I have same issue after I replaced old router with new one. Since then I have to turn off and on this router every morning because two tablet and laptop (both with Windows 8.1) can't see each other and my NAS server in local network. Also mouse and keyboard sharing app is failing. Click image for larger version

I'm searching and searching and still no solution :/ I've also made a hard reset and fresh config for router but still the same. Any given other network: works flawlessly even when I try to use my phone as a router.

Will let you know if anything gona change!

    Hi there
remember also in some cases a PC in Auto update might re-boot itself after installing updates and lose some config settings. I tend to switch off Automatic updates and run these manually every so often. A computer that re-boots on a LAN doesn't automatically have the same IP address - especially if your router uses (as most do by defaualt) DHCP.

Some routers / network settings also can "Lease" an IP address for a fixed time so if there's no activity on that machine it's dropped from the LAN. (Most home users don't normally enable those settings).

    Cheers

Can you assign a specific IP on your router?
