I have posted about this once before, I have a few pc's in my house with a home group created, 2 of them have windows 7 and one PC has windows 8 and I have a surface 2 tablet. If I am signed in on a live account on either of the machines I can't access shared folders from other machines. If I sign in with o local account than I have no problems. I have everything configured properly to the best of my knowledge and I can't figure it out. I can't seem to find anyone else with the same issue.

Yes that it a strange problem. Has this always been a problem since you set up the Homegroup?

Are these machines set up to use Private network?

Be sure and check all the Advanced Sharing settings, turn on network discovery and File and Printer sharing for Private networks, Guest and Public Networks and All Networks, there are three settings now.

If all else fails> Try leaving the Homegroup from all machines then create a new Homegroup and rejoin.

Hey chev, yea I have tried everything under the sun I believe. Even went as far as re-installing windows and buying a new router. When I try to access the folder it says I can't, says their May be an issue with my network. When I run the troubleshooter it says that my computer appears to be correctly configured, but the other device or resource is not responding. I have made sure the advanced network settings are all correct and it is configured as a private network. This is driving me nuts lol

I haven't moved any of the users folders and I have tried the sfc a few times and I think you helped me use the one with the user accounts last time.

That's right, it's hard to remember all the different names I see here. As I recall the DISM command did fix some problems.

Now in the old thread you mention the problem as not being able to access files on the Windows 7 machine?

But now you say you can't access files on the Windows 8 machines?

http://www.eightforums.com/network-sharing/35399-cant-access-shared-folders-live-account.html

If you set up a Homegroup using the standard account then you would need to set up a new Homegroup when you changed to a Msoft live ID account but I'm sure you tried that?

Hey I can't access any shared folders on any machines when using the live account. I even went so far as doing a clean install of 8 and starting with a live account and creating the home group right away and still no good. I figured maybe that had something to do with it because when I initially built the PC I had no wireless card in it so I started with a local account right off the bat. But even on a clean install and starting the home group with the live account still have issues,

So you have tried to reset the router? Or I should ask what is the router set up in this network?

Make model of modem and router would be helpful.

Yea I have tried that it's a scientific Atlanta modem from the cable company and I just bought a netgear n750 router, I have 2 PC,s wired to it and one wirelessly and a bunch of tablets, I had a 5 port switch with my old linksys router but I took that out. I just double checked the advanced sharing options on one of the PC,s I can't connect to and they are fine

Ok, on the modem, I need a model number so I can check if it's just a modem or one of those modem/router's which do nothing but create problems with the actual router.

I think that would mean private as in not public? I had the same issue with my G75 on Win 7 SP1 HP, I was unable to solve until I put this version of 8.1 Pro for some reason 7 and 8 have issues with networking other than the Pro versions? I was able to carry my peer to peer network under win 7 sp1 pro, However my G75 came with SP1 HP and I was never able to take it into the network. I never even tried Home Network as far as I can tell that's great for someone that has no idea how to set up a network. I prefer to make my own setting so that I'm in control of my own network!

Select a location for network.png Change Sharing options for differen network profiles.png I'm not on my 8.1 notebook but I think Win 8 has the same set up options

No that isn't normal at all. You are using two different networks here which is why I asked for the model number of the modem.

I need to see the ipconfig/all from one of the Windows 8 machines and the Windows 7 machines.

What is the leaf adaptor connected to?

The leaf adapter doesn't connect to anything it has a private Apipa address. My router broadcasts two separate ones a 2..4 and 5ghz broadcast. When you connect wirelessly you can choose either one. They have different ssid but I don't connect wirelessly on my 8 machine now

I still require the ipconfig/all screen shots from both the Windows 8 and 7 machines. That Apipa/leaf connection has no place in this network, what the heck is that for?

This isn't something we can guess at. :)

And no, Private does not mean you can't access it and it is the correct way to set up this network. :)

This appears to be two separate NIC Adapters? like maybe you have an onboard one and then added a second NIC Card?
network Adapters.png I do indeed have an onboard NIC which you see is disabled, and I have an add on NIC which is enabled and the one I uses to connect to my Router.
