Hi,

I've installed Win8 to my laptop and tried to connect to our dormitory network. First, it has been working pretty well.. ..but since this morning*) I cant connect. The troubleshooter ends without success displaying: "Wired ehernet connection doesnt have valid IP configuration."

I'm quite "greenhorn" in deeper settings but I did my best and nothing have worked.
I found out interesting Network Connection Details of Wired Ethernet Connection Status:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Description: Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet
Physical Address: ‎00-1F-16-C5-CC-AA
DHCP Enabled: Yes
IPv4 Address:
IPv4 Default Gateway:
IPv4 DNS Server:
IPv4 WINS Server:
NetBIOS over Tcpip Enabled: No

(Note: I have set "Obtain an IP adress automatically" as it was required by our administrator.)

I would be very grateful for any help. If you'll want any details, please dont hasitate to ask..

Thanks in advance

D.

*) administrators have uptaded their "device list" (or somethink like that - the list of users and details about them) and since that my laptop cant find the network. But my records are ok, I've checked that.

My ethernet port isn't working either. In my Device Manager, Ethernet Controller and 3x Base System Device's are yellow flagged. Doesn't seem good!

Is your ethernet card built in your motherboard or a seperate card?

I am also in the "greenhorn" category, other than plug in and go. But, for curiosity, do you not have a wireless card in the laptop? If so, maybe there is a conlfliction. Try disabling the ethernet card and going wireless.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
So..
- my etherned card is build to MB (at least I hope so - I use Acer Aspire 5738g)
- wifi connection works great. But I need to connect via ethernet cable 'couse I've paid for that..

Doxxik? Did you remember to turn off your wireless connection? There should be a switch on your laptop to allow you to.

Yes, I've disable wireless connection before I've tried to connect via ethernet cable. ('cause it is on our network's manual.. Unfortunatelly, there is not a manual directly for Win8 connection)

If there is a yellow flag in device manager the driver isnt working properly. If I were you I would re-install the most recent version

I went to the Asus website and the drivers for my ethernet port (JMICRON LAN DRIVERS) will not run. An error message pops up that says: Fail to Call ProcInitSetupArg!
I tried looking for updates through the device manager, but it doesn't find any.

There is obviously a problem with the system. You could try to do a repair install to fix the problem files. There is a tutorial on how to do that here in the tutorial section.

I did the repair install, and it is still having the same problem.

Sorry, how do I figure that out? In my device manager the Ethernet Controller appears with a yellow flag, is that what you mean?

Usually those are downloaded by Windows. Those are the drivers, that you can install by downloading the newest chipset.

My wired connection did the same thing this morning. Said Unidentified network. Ran the trouble shooter which fixed it. After reboot it's working again.
