How Do I Wirelessly Broadcast From My W8.1 PC to Xbox/TV?

I had the understanding that the only way I could view content on my TV w/Xbox extender from my PC for online videos, Showtime Anytime, Coke & Popcorn, HBO GO, etc. was with an Xbox Live Gold Account. However, I read that this can be done in 8.1 without an XLGA by opening the video source in the IE app, begin play, charms/device/Xbox would broadcast directly. I've tried this but I don't see the Xbox option in Device. What am I missing?

I would think the Xbox movie app would work for this but I haven't tried it yet because I have a Media PC. I think it only installs smart glass.

I don't think this will work for my needs. This looks to be for having separate saved video files. I'm talking about browser based videos such as I mentioned previously.

Do you mean this one > Media Browser app for Windows in the Windows Store

Which doesn't support Xbox per this > XBOX app plans? - Feature Requests - Media Browser 3 Community

But I'm not sure if this is the same media browser app you are using?

If you aren't using an app then at the very least you would want to make sure that streaming is enabled for the Xbox as is showing in the picture.

I'm not using any media browsers. Below is the info I was referring to. It was in regard to streaming video content from IE on a Surface 2 to a TV/Xbox but would be the same as my 8.1 PC. Btw...I don't see a "media streaming options" as you do in the above SS.

You dont need a gold account to use it. First you need to be in the same network i mean both xbox and surface. Next go to xbox settings>console settings>connected devices and tick play to option and also smartglass option. Next go to surface Charms>devices> play to. You will see xbox there and wait till it connects. Voila you will see/hear music in your tv via xbox. You can also control the functions on your surface.

You can also cast internet videos. It is important to note that you can play any embedded vids, stream flash and other vids to your tv via xbox using same process. It is likewise important to note that when...

<Me> I'm not sure I follow fully. What about programs available on Showtime Anytime, Coke & Popcorn, etc? Are you saying if anything opened in IE app can be sent to Xbox?

Yes absolutely. Videos and Music Just be sure both that xbox and surface are in the same network and use METRO IE app. Tested showtime anytime and Coke and popcorn and it worked flawlessly. This is not only exclusive to surface. If you have desktop PC running on Windows 8.1 you can cast your downloaded movies to your xbox using same method. But...

You should be able to enable the streaming options from the Change Advanced Sharing Settings link then to All Networks, you will see the link for choose media Streaming Options. Not sure why they hide it here.

That was the way in and it Xbox was indeed disabled, however, even after enabling it, it still doesn't show up in Search/Devices/Play. Did you understand what that guy was talking about in what I sent?

For me it shows up Search/Devices/Devices and Printers but it may take awhile to get there after enabling the streaming option.

Thanks for your continued patience. "May take awhile"??? I restarted my PC but all that shows under Print is "You can only print from an App".

This seems quite different from what that guy was talking about in what I sent previously. Did you understand what he was talking about?

Yes now I see I'm sorry, It's charms bar/devices/Play ,when I click play it says You can only play from apps.

I think the smart glass would have created an interface with the Xbox.

I just tested the same path from the Smart Glass app, turn on the Xbox then just go Charms bar/Devices/Play while in Smart Glass, I mean obvious enough I guess. I really need to mess with these apps more.

I can see it now looks for my Xbox which isn't turned on but it says, this app can't play to a device right now as it's looking for the Xbox, so I'm sure it will connect.
