    Won't detect the ethernet cable.

    Hello,

I'm currently trying to setup my router as the previous one broke but my laptop won't detect the ethernet cable being plugged in.

    Things I've tried:
    • Rebooting and hard resetting router.
    • Changing the Speed/Duplex. Changing to to 100Mbps Full Duplex caused the routers lan port to light up but my laptop still displays that there is no ethernet cable plugged in. And changing it to 10Mbps Full/Half duplex occasionally causes the adapter to display detecting network settings for a split second before changing back to displaying no ethernet cable detected.
    • Resetting Bios.
    • Tried the sfc /scannow command and shows that there are corrupt files unable to be fixed automatically. (The log is here https://www.mediafire.com/?67di5t9k3gs4sin (uploaded externally as file size is too large)).
    • Restarting the laptop.
    • changing ethernet cables.
    • Updating to latest ethernet drivers.

Currently running Windows 8 64bit. I've tried searching through other posts but none solving the problem.

Thanks, any help is much appreciated.

Is your ethernet adapter enabled? Go into Control Panel, Devices and Printers, Device Manager and open the entry for Network Adapters. Right click on the LAN adapter (not the wireless one) and if it is disabled enable it.

Check it's properties, it should say it is working normally.

The sfc scan indicates you have system file problems which will require fixing. Once you get this message from sfc then you need to run the DISM repair command in order to fix the other problems, the link below tells you what to do in order to fix this ongoing problem.

Ok, so I've tried the DISM but and error popped up (0x8024402c) stating that it has failed and no operation was performed. https://www.mediafire.com/?24ww0sagewtj9mr - The DISM log

As I suspected there is definitely a problem with either component store corruption or system files.

Did you run the sfc /scannow before hand? If not try running the sfc /scannow command in an elevated command prompt then let me know what it says.

You should stick with me here because this problem isn't going away on it's own.

If you can do a direct attachment it would be better but I really just need to know if it passed or not.

It's sometimes required to run the first sfc scan a few times with reboots after each one, then run the DISM repair command and see if it fixes all problems.

Oh, sorry but the file size was too large to be attatched, will try what you have suggested.
