Upgraded to 8.1. Now wireless network cannot connect.

Upgraded ThinkPad laptop via ethernet from 8 to 8.1 then tested out fine. Shutdown for the night and removed the ethernet cable. Day later the Lenovo booted fine and the wireless SSID showed 5 bars on the charms bar. Clicked to connect and was prompted for the pw which was entered correctly. Charms said cannot connect to network. Next in device manager updated the Intel Centrino 6200 AGN adapter driver with the Microsoft version that was already on the HDD. Restarted and now could connect. Worked session internet was ok and shutdown.

Next startup no wireless internet connection again. Updating network driver did not work this time. Is there some problem with 8.1 upgrade and wireless networking?

The problem is that there isn't a specific 8.1 driver for the Intel 6200agn, the old one isn't quite working right either.

You could try installing with compatibility mode and see how that goes. Just right click the driver to get to compatibility mode.

Could you give me a little more detail in your explanation?

The way I have been updating the drivers, and only way I know, ia the following :

    1. Open network in Device manager
    2. Right-click the wireless adapter and choose properties.
    3. Select the Driver tab and choose Update Driver.
    4. Select the List Drivers On PC To Choose From.
    5. Select the driver. Intel or Microsoft I've tried it both ways.

I can find no executable or inf file to right-click on. Can you give me more help on how to follow your suggestion (sorry, I'm pretty basic)? Thanks.

Well to install the driver in compatibility mode you need to download a version of the driver from the following link, click on the Op system "Windows 8" as there are no 8.1 drivers. Download to your desktop then right click to get to compatibility mode, directions in second link.

I'm glad it's connecting now at least. The Intel drivers have been a little slow on the updates.

The log in problem could be because of the Intel connection software which you can sometimes uninstall separately via Add-Remove Programs.
