does anyone know why when I create a homegroup and try to access my shared folders on my windows 7 laptop from my windows 8 pc it says I dont have permissions it says I cant access the shared folders, yet if I stop using my microsoft live account and sign in with a local account on the computer I can access everything fine...Really annoys me because I cant use skydrive with the regular account....I have all the options set to share on my account settings too...

Did you maybe set up or join the Homegroup using the standard account?

When in doubt it's best to leave the Homegroup on all machines then just create a new one and rejoin.

i think i initially was on a standard user account when I set up the pc

Yes, because of that the standard user is now the owner of the files on that account. All files created when in that account belong to the standard User. You could try taking ownership of the files from the Microsoft account.

It's possible to change between the accounts but the owner of the files won't change because of this.

but the files i am trying to access are on another pc which is runnign windows 7 pro...thats where I am having the problem..I cant access the shared folders on my windows 7 pro macine...but from my windows 7 pro machine I can access the windows 8 shared folders......when i take the live account off I have no problem getting to the shared folders on the 7 machine....so the permissions woud have noting to do with the live account right? I cant take ownership of the files on another machine with another account.. the folders i am sharing on the windows 8 machine are fine I can access them from the windows 7 machine... Its just whenever I try to access the shared folders on my 7 pro machine I get the windows cant access error

In any case you should leave the Homegroup from both machines, set up a new Homegroup from the Windows 8 machine using the Windows live account, then join the new Homegroup from the Windows 7 machine.

When it comes to Homegroup and access problems this is standard procedure to fix those sorts of problems.

I think these problems could have been avoided by starting with a Windows live account as there seems to be some type of trust or permission problem when switching between accounts.

I'm not too sure really and honestly I've never heard of such a problem.

OK, sorry I didn't even realize you were the same person with the kernel event problems, it's no wonder you are having problems with those error messages. Something is hosed up good on this system just not sure what.

Try running the following command in an elevated command prompt while you are signed into the Windows live account.

Code:
 Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

I'm surprised that this system passed the sfc /scannow but repairs were required to fix the component store corruption, usually the two go hand in hand with both being requiring repairs. You might try running the sfc command once more.

I agree that the refresh and reinstall is probably the best option at this point.

I think in this case the Windows 8 installation was corrupted before the upgrade to Windows 8.1 which typically leads to problems.

I have no such bugs with 8.1 and I've been running the RTM since Oct. 1.

yea I am going to see about doing a clean install again.... I did run the system file checker and it found nothing wrong.. The event viewer problem seemed to be a common thing that alot of people got when they upgraded to 8.1 ...I still have a few more errors to look into unless I just do another clean install... Regardless thanks alot again chev65 for helping me out...
