I want to be able to remote control my moms PC. Both our PC's are W8 pro. I used a pro android app called jump remote desktop from my android tablet which allowed me to control my moms PC but it logged her out of her PC so she got a blank display while I controlled it. If I use the integrated W8 pro remote desktop would my mom also be logged out and get a blank screen? How about the chrome web browser remote desktop extension? Am I right this is the only way that I can control her PC while she can still see what I'm doing. Does chrome extension log her out of windows? Another problem with having her log out of windows is then the next time she turns on her PC she will be asked for windows password even though we have it setup to start windows without asking for sign in info. Is chrome extension best solution for me? Easy to setup?
RDP will automatically lock the machine from the local user however if already logged in she will have the right to force disconnect the RDP session. Your best bet is to set up a separate account for you and make any system change required using that. As far as Windows is concerned you are not authroised to access that account remotely or locally.
Teamviewer is the best bet for keeping her logged in however it requires communication between each other to exchange passwords etc.. Equally she will be able to take control whenever she sees fit.
Hi Lucie, I was using Teamviewer like Josh suggested but then I found a new product called NoMachine (www.nomachine.com) It's free like Teamviewer but I find it offers me better performance especially when I am streaming multimedia from my sister's pc. I use it to show her how to use the photoshop app she is learning about at school.
I wont need to be seeing video across one computer to the other. I just want easabilty of setup and use and like I said I want her to be able to see what I'm doing as I'm doing it for her. Anyone know if chrome remote extension will do this? Or if nomachine is my best choice?

You do not need to exchange password if you set it up with a pre-defined password for unattended access and use the same password as long as her PC is running teamviewer.

NoMachine installs out of the box, you install it on your PC and your mom installs it on hers. I also use it to show my sis how to use things - kinda like demonstrations. She can watch. You need to make sure that your mom tells you the IP of her computer. NoMachine does this for you in the "server settings firewall" panel, or just check it using whatismyip.com. This is her public IP and it's what you need to get access to her computer. It's free, so I'm not complaining. Chrome is ok, it depends what you want from a remote access tool. I decided to opt for NoMachine because I want everything rather than an app for this, an app for that, and so on.
I'm finally going to set up remote desktop software on me and my moms windows 8.1 PC's. Before I do, I'm checking in here again. teamviwer and no machine are still my best options? Anyone else want to tout one over the other for me?
