    Sharing in windows 8.1

I thought I had my sharing files figured out,but now I updated to windows 8.1 and cannot open the files I have marked "share with" on my windows 7 computer. I keep getting the box that tells me I don't have permission. I have read/write checked. How do I open them in windows 8.1. One computer has windows 7 the trouble one has windows 8.1.

Homegroup Sharing Settings - Change in Windows 8

This may give you some help. I've seen so many things changed between 8.0 and 8.1 that I wouldn't be surprised if your home group password has been changed.

    HTH

Edit: The tutorial says 8.1, although it's not listed here.

Are you sure that the 8.1 machine is part of the same Homegroup?

You might try rejoining the original Homegroup by leaving then joining again, you can get the Homegroup password from the Windows 7 machine.

The "Share With" > "Specific People" setting on each Library folder needs to say Homegroup read/write.

This is so confusing. Yesterday everything worked just fine. Today not so. My sound is even gone. But in the sharing,It all shows connected to the home group and the 2 computers and all the files from the other computer, I just do not have permission to open them. I did yesterday. I have not done anything different today,no unusual downloads or anything.Should I still just cancel it all out and start over? And how do I get the sound back? I wish I had never updated to 8.1.

Ok, Forget the part about sound. My grandson had turned off my speakers.

So you didn't install any type of third party anti virus software? If the grandson has access to this PC there is no telling what could have been changed.

The Sharing permissions are controlled through C: > Users folder > properties> Sharing tab

Grandson did not change anything else on the computer. Under users, properties, there is no share tab. Just General, security, network, previous version, and customize. No share tab in any of the tabs.

Press the Windows key, then start typing sharing. You'll be told no apps on sharing are available . . . click on Settings (over to the right top of the window. There will be all types of sharing tabs.

In settings under network it shows computers 2 as connected.I really do appreciate your help, but we just don't see to be getting anywhere. I may just need to delete the groups and start again
