Wi-Fi issue - "No Internet Connection"

My laptop running Windows 8 suddenly lost connection to the internet last week. I can connect to the network but shows "Access Type: No Internet Access".

My phone and iPad can connect to the internet with no issues, but only my laptop can't. Typing in the router IP doesn't connect me to the router admin page either.

I've tried disabling/enabling the network adapter, restoring windows but hasn't been successful. I have uninstalled all antivirus programs and have updated network drives and Windows to the latest versions.

Has someone had similar issues and have been solved?

Thank you in advance for the support!

If it's a Sony there is a Wi-Fi switch on the front edge that might have accidentally been switched off?

I had a Asus X550L. I can connect to my smartphone as Wi-Fi hotspot so somehow it's like my laptop is suddenly not compatible with that particular network. Router shouldn't have an issue cos I can surf the internet with no problem with phone and iPad.

Delete your router from your network connections and then search available networks and reinput your password?

No luck with that either. I am currently reinstalling Windows 8 again and entered the router network details on the initial set up screen. Then it asked for Microsoft account, which I entered, and it failed to log in saying that it could not connect to the internet.

If it's not able to connect to the internet on the Windows set up sequence, then would it be a hardware problem?

What I would suggest now is to connect your router to the laptop with an Ethernet cable, you will get into the admin page from there to make sure your settings and passwords etc. Are all correct.

Also if you have a router disc run that and reinstall the router software.

I'll give that a try. Cos it's the landlord's router I'll have to ask him on another day for it, and not sure if he'd have the disc.

What would be the underlying problem here? I did upgrade Windows last week which may have caused the issue, but then reinstalling it doesn't work either.

Had it ever worked on Windows 8? It could be a driver compatibility issue with your network card. I doubt if it's a hardware fault if it was working on Windows 7.

It's a new laptop that came with Windows 8. It's been working fine for a month until last week. Still, WiFi works fine on my phone. I've logged into the router page through my phone, but not sure what settings to change to find find out what the issue is.

Also here is the ping result to the router:

I cannot connect to the router admin page. My router is a tp link TL W740N. Would there be a compatibility issue with the latest update on Windows 8? It was working fine last week.

Thanks for the latest info provided.

You may try restoring it back to a state when your wireless connection was working by using the Windows 8 System Restore feature if you have done this route.

If that didn't help, can you uninstal your Atheros device from Device Manager? Before doing this, please go to this site and download the driver then manually install it.

Another update of your progress will be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. I will try and reinstall the adapter once I get home. Also I've reinstalled Windows but that didn't work as well.

Will revert once I sort out the adapter!

I just reinstalled the network adapter and it did not solve the issue. Is there anything else that can be done? This seems to be very strange.

Look into the routers settings and try to change the wireless channel. Destination host unreachable means that the data never reached the host. Someone previously mentioned about trying a wired connection? What results did that yield?

Just my view,
Josh :)

I'm having the same issue, I have tried to re install the adapter drivers I have also tried old ones with no luck. I do not have a restore point to go back to so my only option is a re install to 8. I am also interested in this hard wire fix.

Running a Lenovo Y580

if anybody can see anything in this that would be great.

It's quite a common issue, what I'd recommend is try a different driver (even Windows 7 driver if your O/S will let you install it) from either the manufacturer of your computer's site or the manufacturer site of your device. I'm fortunate to say that when I've upgraded my Samsung laptop from Windows 8 Pro to 8.1 Enterprise I do not have this issue that you guys are experiencing, I'll have to keep my fingers crossed on that.
