No, I said that reboot "fixes" it for me. This was never a problem with Win 8. I can't imagine that Win 8.1 requires new drivers but, if so, I suspect it will be a while before Win 8.1 drivers are available for the built-in network interface on a 3-year old computer. Static IP might do something and it might cause other problems.

Same dual boot with Win 8, no problem. Its clearly a Win 8.1 problem. Its encouraging (but sad) to see that others are having the same problem. Perhaps Microsoft will look into it.

Thanks. I'll report back if it happens again or after a few days it doesn't.

2:30 PM today. I had been surfing the net for a while and suddenly no network connectivity. I tried enabling the Ethernet connection using the Network Connections window. No luck. Next I tried the suggested command "netsh int ip reset" which required admin privileges. It ran fine but did not provide a connection. At the end it said to reboot to complete this action. Wonderful! Rebooting always fixes the problem.

The Microsoft Windows Community Forum has lots of similar complaints and "me too" replies about Windows 8.1 losing network connection. I'm looking forward to the fix from Microsoft

I fixed my issue.. This might work for other too... Press the Windows key + X, select Network Connections, right click on your network and select Properties, Under the Networking tab select Configure, then click the Advanced tab, in the Property box scroll down until you see Disable Bands and select Disable 802.11a, finally click OK..

Did that but none of the 18 Property items are "Disable Bands" :-(

I booted back to Win 7 and ran the Win 8.1 compatibility test. It says the Broadcom adapter is compatible with Win 8.1. Looks like a problem for the engineers in Redmond.

Ok, I've been having the same issue but with a wired connection, here's what solved it...

Head to device manager, find your network adapter, right click and select Uninstall. It will give you a check box to also remove the drivers, make sure it's checked. Once this has completed, restart Windows. Your network card will be picked up on reboot and Windows will install drivers automatically. This took me back to an older version of the driver than I had, but it's now working correctly.

My problem is with a wired connection. Your solution sounds worth a try. However, I find the problem only happens about once a day, a reboot fixes it until the next day. How long has yours been working? We've only had Win 8.1 for 5 days :-)
