Every time I close the lid on my laptop and then open it later I lose internet connectivity and have to restart the computer. How can I fix this? Thank you.

just to add more info to my last post, i am using an HP ENVY m6 Entertainment PC. It doesn't seem to matter what browser I use, I have tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Sorry, I know other info will be needed but I have no idea what. Thanks.

It's all in your POWER settings, open Control Panel, Power Settings, and get into your Current Plan, and into Advanced Settings.

In Advanced Settings, there will be a setting for your Wifi adapter, the most common setting is for the Wifi Card to be shut OFF when the lid is closed. You have to set it for both Battery and AC cord operation, just tell it NOT to shut off the Wifi (or LAN Card) when Closed.

You can also get to the settings via "Screensaver/Power Settings/Advanced Power Settings" - Scroll down until you see Wifi card, tell it not to shut off.

I tried to do that but when I get to Advanced Settings, under Wifi adapter there is nothing about the card shutting off. I tried setting Power saving mode to maximum performance, but it didn't work. This is what I see:

You might try the HP update center for the latest updates, there is one in the driver-chipset section which is called smart connect that may help. "The Intel Smart Connect Technology driver enables the system to resume from sleep mode "

That didn't work either. BTW the pic I included in my last post doesn't appear. What it was showing was the Power Options box, Advanced Settings tab with the Wireless Adapter settings node expanded. The only node under it is Power Savings Mode. Only 2 items appear under it: 'On battery' and 'Plugged in'. Both are set to Maximum Performance.

One more thing I forgot to mention up front, this started a couple months ago. I have had this laptop since shortly after Windows 8 first came out and didn't have this problem before.

Maybe going to Windows 8.1 will solve the problem, hard to say for sure but a system file scan might reveal some problems.

Try running the sfc /scannow command in an elevated command prompt.

I did the scan. The resulting output was:

Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included it the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.

That didn't fix it. Then I downloaded and installed Windows 8.1. Still having the same problem.

A summary of what I have tried so far:
    1. In Control Panel/Power Options/Change Plan Settings/Advanced Settings/Wireless Adapter Settings, there is only one node, Power Saving Mode, with 2 sub-nodes, OnBattery and Plugged In. I set them both to Maximum Performance.
    2. Downloaded and installed the Intel Smart Connect driver chipset from http://h10025.www1.hp.com website.
    3. Ran sfc/ scannow from command prompt. The following message resulted:
Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included it the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.
    4. Installed Windows 8.1.
None of this fixed the problem. Anyone know what I should try next? Thanks.

You really need to pass those scans because from the report you are missing some system files.

Run the DISM scan per the link below and let me know if it fixes anything.
