Network drive connection takes long time - why?

    Greetings.
I have 2 PC's. Both are now running Windows 8. The main PC was running Windows 7 and I there mapped a network drive (z to the Win8 PC. It worked very nice. The second PC was also shown in "networks" in "my Computer" right after boot of Main PC. So network for sharing is set up properly on second PC.

After installing Windows 8 on main PC, it is still working, but the time spend waiting for the network drive is waaaaay longer now. The name of second PC "Photo-PC", is shown right after boot, but when I first click on the name, and get this error:
    Networkpath not found. Errorcode 0x80070035

If I then wait about 20-30 seconds and then click again on "Photo-PC" then I have access to all shared drives, included my mapped network drive Z:

How can I eliminate this 20-30 seconds delay after boot?

I have given up setting up a homegroup, never had it to work, but "oldfashioned" network drives used to work

Same as you I use the regular Home networking, I turn off Home group since it only support Windows 7 & Windows 8 and I have different devices connected to the network.

The DNS Cache may be not up to date causing delay.

Please look at this post from steps 6, 7, 8: All computers on the same network, each cant see others

NOTE: Your Router might be a different brand but it should have an option for setting up the LAN.

Allthough my computers CAN see each other, I can't seem to read or write to any shared drives/folders.

I have now tried your tip, and it gave a clue to sort of solution ... I think.
Now I still get this error after boot, and it don't help to wait 20-30 seconds anymore. I have to choose "diagnostic", and after this is finished it wrote, that the PCs net is properly set up, but the target-PC don't answer!! That's funny, because it is my main-PC that changed from win7 to win8. Nothing at all has changed at the "target"-PC.

But after the diagnostic is finished, the LAN works fine until next boot. This one I cannot fix myself, so please help if you have any ideas.
    TIA

Maybe you also should look at step 1 thru 5 from my post. Next, make sure you:

    1. Reset your router by powering it off so that it will rebuild the DNS CAche.
    2. For each PC, open the elevated command prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns and then reboot.

#4 Has done that already before posting in #3 when it did not help.

Actually my mainPC has same static IP-adress with Windows 8 as it did with Windows 7, so I don't think it is a dns problem.

I still have to run diagnostic after every boot to get my mainPC to connect to specific folder on target-PC. Target-PC is showing up right after boot, but just give the error descriped earlier until diagnostic has been run.
