Hello,
I am trying to delete some network connections that I have never
used and that I have no idea how they came into being.
They are NGSKM, TRENDnet and G4257
They don't appear in net show:
netsh wlan show profiles
The only one that appears is ZFHL2, our local network.
Of course, they are not found if I try to delete them with:
netsh wlan delete profile name="TRENDnet"
How do I delete them ?
Thanks
All that is showing is the connections available for you to connect to, not that you connected to. It's the same for XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1. To see what wifi connections you have connected to, open up network and sharing center, then click change adapter settings and you should see a list of the wifi connections you have connected to...eg Home, work, coffee house and so on. In there you can delete those connections you no longer use or need.
What you're seeing is the built-in wifi identifier that shows you all the wifi connections that are broadcasting in your immediate area. On my laptop I have at least 8 at any given time and as many as 20 and sometimes more. That's because of the neighborhood I live in.
If you don't want to broadcast you SSID (your wifi signal) you can turn that off as an added measure of security by accessing the settings of your router through the web-based page. I will need to know the make of your router to give you the manufacturers instructions.
Here's an example for a Linksys brand router..... Article
Thanks for he reply bass fisher,
I did not see the "ghost" connections on the Win 8 machine.
It only showed ZFHL2 the "good guy" (screen shot). I would like to remove the others.
My router is:
ActionTec M1424WR REV C Filtering
I just looked at SSID Broadcast it is Enabled.
If I disable it will that prevent guests in my home from using my local network to connect their computers?

If you disable SSID broadcast, your guests can still connect to your home network but they must enter in the SSID themselves which in this case would be ZFHL2. But, this can cause more problems for you, before disabling your SSID read through the article I have linked at the bottom of the post. As for removing the list of SSID's that you do not want listed, have you tried removing them from your preferred networks?. you can do this by going to Control Panel>Networks and Internet>Network and Sharing Center>Manage Wireless Networks .
If you cannot remove them, you can go into your Router's control panel and change the SSID to something you and your guests will recognize . Hope I helped!
Thanks for the reply nenad285
Your advice is very good! I did read the reference.
I tried to fix the problem by changing the SSID in the router to disable broadcast.
This resulted in my needing to Check - "Connect even if the Network is not broadcasting" in Manage Wireless Network > ZFHL2 > Properties. That step did not remove the display of the old WiFi access points and it created a "Hidden" access point.
I will reverse these changes.
I would like to get rid of the old access points and not display them in the future so that others in my family will not attempt to use them. I only want them to use ZFHL2.
Still looking

Yes, I did try that. The only one that gives me the choices that you picture is my local network ZFHL2.
I asked ActionTec (my router) if there was a way to block the discovery in the router.
Their answer:
"To my knowledge there is no way to prevent your computers from seeing other wireless networks broadcast in an area. The computer wireless WLAN receiver will discover any wireless network broadcast that does not have the SSID hidden."
