Hey guys,

I'm new to forum posting so bare with me. We just purchased a new office computer and it came equipped with windows 8. Everything seemed to set up wonderfully as I connected back up to the server we have here in the office that is running Windows 2008 Server. I set up my printers, I mapped the network drives I needed.

The problem I am having is that the mapped drives seemed to be "read-only." I can view and open all files, but I cannot save or create new folders on the drive. I have not changed anything on the server, as far as user settings or permissions because everything was working smooth on the former computer that ran WinXP. I'm just at a loss and I don't know what to do.

I've read around numerous forums with no luck. I have checked the "manage your credentials" to ensure I have the proper Windows Credentials loaded as one forum suggested. I have tried a couple other things, but I cant seem to figure it out. Below you will see a screen shot of what I keep running into.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Are you logging in as the same user you were using on the Xp machine? If so, is that user set up with a roaming profile or redirected folders?

Yes. I am logging in using the same credentials I used before to access the drive. That user is set up with redirected folders I'm pretty sure. I will have to double check tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the prompt response.

I have seen similar weird behavior when going from an xp to a windows 7 pc when using redirected folders or roaming profiles. It seems that the different configuration of the user folders between XP and Win 7/8 can cause some weird issues when logging into the server with the new pc. You might want to just try creating a new user on the server and logging into it from the new Win 8 pc.

I will give it a try in the morning and see how it goes. I will report back. Thanks in advance.
