WiFi says "Limited" every few minutes

Hello, I am at my college, and I have a strange problem. When I am connected to my college's network, it works just fine, but every few minutes or so, my WiFi network connection suddenly goes to "Limited" and I lose my internet access. It doesn't actually disconnect, but it just says it is limited. If I disconnect and reconnect, it works fine, but then a couple minutes later it does it again. I can't seem to see any pattern to it, but sometimes I think it happens more when I am in a full-screen application like a game or Netflix or something. Also, this only seems to happen in my dorm building. If I go to another building, and connect, it seems that the problem goes away. I tried some of the solutions mentioned here, but none seemed to fix it. Any clue what the deal is?

WiFi says "Limited", no internet connection

I am also experiencing the "limited" condition when I am hooked up to the internet from home. There were a number of links on the internet with some suggestions as to what was occurring and what to do. None seemed to work for me.

I purchased my laptop last week and started to configure it yesterday and started seeing the "limited" condition when I looked at the network status. Then shortly after the "limited" designation appeared, my internet connection was lost.

Since I purchased the laptop through Costco they have a concierge service for most of their electronic products. I called them and we went through a number of tests (power off - status reset, remove the Centrino WIFI driver, reloaded the driver, even got HP on the line) and nothing has resolved the issue. I have now made five calls to Costco and the last two they have engaged HP. The last dialog was to have them send me a replacement WIFI module to see if this resolves the problem - supposed to arrive on Thursday (9/12).

Hopefully this does the trick and let's me continue on with transferring everything from a Window's 7 laptop to the new unit.

So depending on where you got your unit and probably more importantly I would go back to them and see if they would be able to contact the computer manufacturer to possibly get a replacement WIFI module. I don't know if you would get anywhere calling the manufacturer directly but it might be worth a try to have them try to troubleshoot the WIFI issue over the phone.

I am still not positive that it is actually fixed, but I followed the instructions in this video, and it seems to have worked. You might try it and see if it works for you.

Thanks for the information. I did view the video and changed the setting as the video suggests. I hope this resolves the issue - time will tell.

I'm just amazed that the manufacturer (HP) didn't look at this setting.

will keep you posted as to my outcome.

You mean like the power saving setting in the link.

Windows 8 Laptop having issues connecting to WiFi

I did notice an interesting default gateway in the Op's ipconfig read out, not to mention the gateway is using a different IP than the DHCP server IP which is 1.1.1.1 .

I'm not sure if this is the problem or not but I'd be interested in finding out what type of router or modem is being used.

Trying the latest drivers from Asus for the NV56V? may help.

I am honestly not sure what kind of router or modem it is. The college has access points placed around the campus, but I have never taken the time to look at them and see what they are.
I think that the power saving setting I mentioned (same as in your link) seems to have fixed it, but I will keep the drivers in mind as well. Thanks!

WiFi says "Limited" every few minutes

I checked the power management for the WiFi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230) and found it to be enabled. I have since disabled it per your post. That did not solve my issue. In the interim I had contacted HP and they thought I might have a marginal or defective WiFi module so they sent me a replacement. It arrived today and I installed it - no real change seem with the new WiFi module. I also went to the Network Adapter location and looked at the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and found the power management for this device was enabled.

Would this be associated with my issue? The reason I ask is when I go into the "limited" mode a diagnostic screen typically appears and goes through a number of checks - included is a reset of the Realtek controller.

So I have turned of the power management option for the Realtek, along with the WiFi module and have rebooted and decided to post this to see how long it remains up or what else might occur.

My laptop is an HP ENY TouchSmart 17 Notebook PC that I purchased a week ago. If this doesn't resolve the issue than it's going back.

Marginal signal strength could cause that too.

OK, that seems to have not fixed the problem after all. I am still having issues.
