I am hoping this is then a driver issue and not something that would require a reinstallation.

What is the make/model of your machine so I can try an appropriate driver for you to try?

Samsung Ativ 7. It's the Series 7 but I think they renamed it... NP740U3E-K01UB if that helps... And thanks for all the help here, I really appreciate it

With only certain web sites loading I might think about doing some virus scans with Malware Bytes.

Possibly try scanning with the sfc/scannow command and see if it finds any problems.

These only certain website loading type problems can be difficult to track down.

Maybe even flush the DNS, reset TCP/ip, reset winsock etc. Resetting IE to defaults might also help >Internet Options>Advanced tab>Reset button. It might also help or turn off proxy settings in IE, Connections tab>LAN button.

Thanks for pm Josh, my two cents.

It isn't just a few websites, it's every website that won't load. But only after the connection cuts out, which can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. I ran the sfc/scannow and it found corrupt files which it claims were repaired, but when I try to open the log file it tells me access is denied. But here's the good news - I ran the file you attached and after restart, my computer is able to ping google! Average time of 7ms. TTL=54. I hope we got this thing figured out! I'll post back and let you know if there are any more problems when I have time to actually play around with the computer over the next few days. But if we got it, thank you both so much!

SFC, fixed something which is usually a system file, so that could have been part of the problem.

The IP reset file fixed all problems related to the network stack, there could have been a problem with both.

Sounds like it was a "good guess" on my part either way, or maybe an educated guess is more accurate.

So far so good except for 1 little thing... I had the internet disconnect and another "gateway default" error popped up. I fixed it with troubleshooter and no help. (I could once again load sites, but not ping google.) But then when I logged on through the VPN, the pinging miraculously worked. Any idea what that's about? I don't think I should need to have a VPN to have internet access (my other computer does not require it) but so far it's what makes the internet work for me... Could there still be another slight problem? Now I just want to see if I still get the gateway error while the VPN is connected. May take a few days to see that but I'll be back to let you know either way

actually, and this may help... The computer that has never had any problems shows me 2 connections when I have the VPN turned on. University Internet shows as "Internet Access" and "Network 2" (which I believe is the VPN connection) shows as "Internet access." On the computer we are currently troubleshooting, only the Network 2 shows "Internet access." The other university connection shows "No internet access." So somehow the VPN is getting around whatever is blocking the main connection? And it's making it's own connection aside from relying entirely on the wireless being broadcast in my residence?

As said before it is most likely an access list blocking ICMP traffic whereas the VPN connection's LAN allows it. Can the computer that doesn't have the issue ping google? When the VPN connection is disconnected.

We can't really help with any VPN connections since it is not our's or your's network and for issues regarding that you would need to talk to the network Admin.
