using Windows 8, machine is 3 months old. HP Ultrabook. Wifi had been working fine until just now. There are over a dozen WiFi networks available, but my laptop says 'No networks found'. Other laptops have no problem connecting. What is wrong? How can I fix the problem?

Have you tried checking in Device Manger under Network Adaptors to see if there is a problem showing for the wireless NIC?

It sounds like the driver isn't working, reinstalling the driver would work to fix this usually unless it's something else.

Thanks for your reply!

I checked in the Device Manager under Network Adaptors and didn't see a problem.

I am using a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter. The Device status is:
'This device is working properly.' Is there was a problem, I assume it would have a different message.

After rebooting my laptop the third time, the WiFi is working again.

If the problem persists you might try turning off the fast boot option, it may help with this type of problem.

Thank you for the suggestion. I turned off the fast boot option. I don't know what effect it has.

I can see the WiFi networks available now. But I can't connect to the WiFi network I want. Other devices and laptops can connect to this network. But I can't. I get a message that says: "Can't connect to this network." Sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn't. Or it will work for an hour, and then stop for the next several hours. Would you have any other ideas?

Are you trying to connect to your own network or an unknown one?

Do you know what type of security and encryption is used in this network?

Have you been to the Windows Update Center using a wired connection so as to obtain all the latest drivers for your new system?

Try this,,,

Right Click your WIFI Icon and Open Network and Sharing Center
Click Change Adapter Settings to the left
Find your WIFI card and Right click and Disable wait about 30 seconds, then right click and Enable

If that doesn't work,,,

Open an administrator command prompt

Go to Search and type CMD
Then hit CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER and if needed click Yes to agree

Type: netsh wlan show profile

Then Type: netsh wlan delete profile "YourWIFIName"

You can also delete any others that you see that you do not need

I enabled then disabled the WiFi card and that worked but only once. It worked for about an hour then the problem returned. I tried to enable and disable again, but had great difficulty enabling again and once I did, it didn't fix the problem any more. I was still disconnected from WiFi. I deleted the profile, but that did not help either.

I was able to connect my Windows 8 laptop to another WiFi source and had no problems. I realized then that the problem was not with the laptop but with the WiFi router. I turned the WiFi router off for about 1 hour. This appears to have fixed the problem.
