Hi all. I am at my families house and they have a windows XP I have been able to connect to their wifi all the time. Well the last three days it wont let me connect. My Windows 8 Basic wifi works fine everywhere else. So I am not really sure if it is my Hp Laptop or their XP Desktop.

I would appreciate anything you can provide.:)

Unplug the wifi router, count from 1 to 10, then plug it back in.

Reboot their internet router (unplug and plug back in). Sometimes it is what handles getting IP addresses to your laptop. After that, reboot their WiFi device to be on the safe side. Give it about 2 minutes after both of those are rebooted then turn the WiFi on and off on your laptop and attempt to connect.

I am back cannot connect to the internet.

Hi all I am so bummed again! Okay I have an HP Laptop 2000, Windows 8 basic 64 bit. My internet card is still reading on device manager but it has an exclamation point next to it. I uninstalled it and re installed it but still the explanation is there and no internet. I did unplug the wireless router and plug it back in and the same thing.

Can any of you help me fix this problem??

Works, most of the times unless Microsoft patches decide otherwise...
What is the error message tied to the !. It should tell you why it has a yellow !. Have you tried installing/updating the driver for it?

Yes, the wireless button was turned on. lol In Device manager the exclamation was just next to the wireless card adapter it had no reason it just was.

Yes, like I said above I uninstalled it and reinstalled it.

I did a Restore point and it fixed the problem even though it said it did not do a full restore. So it is working now.

What does it mean that "it hijacks m whole computer"? Also, does your laptop have touch screen to turn on/off devices?

Your wifi card might be turned off every ten minutes or so to save power. Check the adapter settings and remove the check mark from the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

If your stuff was in the C:\Users\(your user name) folder its likely gone. Have a look there anyway. If you have a separate Data partition it may still be there. Don't take this the wrong way but its highly unlikely it did that on its own. Anything else MIA like programs you installed yourself? Are all your library folders empty?
