Trying to network Windows 8 with Windows 7

Hi All, new to forum so pls forgive any issues, wasnt surewhether to post new or to continue where i had been researching... I too am having problems. I am trying to network new windows 8 installation with old windows 7. I have set up ok and can access both PC's. However, I cannot view files from Windows 8 to the W7 machine only vice versa. I have been thro the permissions and all are ok but for some reason the W8 machine will not 'save' the ''shared'' setting in Homegroup ''documents''. I seect it, it says it has saved it but then when i check again it has reverted back to ''unshare''. Sri if this has been covered before but i couldnt find an exact reult. Regards, Charles

Make sure that you have option 1 number 4 in the link below set to share files, the check marks have to be there or the files will not share.

Also make sure in the Advanced Sharing settings that you have Network Discovery and File and printer sharing turned on for both machines, be sure and check the Private and the All Networks settings.

Thanks for the advice, all now working. I had not visited one of the pages before that I found thanks only to your advice and eventually managed to resolve the issue. Thanks again, made my day!

That's good, it might have been the All Networks advanced sharing settings, everyone misses that page as it's an add on compared to Windows 7. Glad I could help.
