For some oddball reason, my computer will only recognize an ethernet connection. It wont even give me the chance to connect to a wireless network. It doesnt even give me the option.

You need extra hardware to establish a wi-fi connection from a desktop.

so my "onboard LAN" Isnt wireless? The one lissted in the specs as having speeds of 10/100/1000Mbps?

Onboard LAN cards (Ethernet (802.3)) are different to Wireless Cards (802.11b/g/n/ac). Both a form of NICs (Network Interface Cards) but not the same
