Every 1-3 day my internet stops allowing new connections. If I'm listening to my internet radio when the problem occurs, the stream does not end(radio does not stop), but if I refresh the page, it won't load the player(I'll get a 'error connection reset' page instead). It doesn't matter what browser I use & it doesn't matter if I use Ethernet or Wireless Lan. Running Windows 8 Pro, with all updates installed. All Drivers were installed using the windows 8 tool provided by samsung. All drivers are updated. Windows Firewall is off. Avast Internet Security 2013 is installed & updated, providing antivirus and firewall. When the problem occurs, I can no longer receive new connections, however, my tablet on the same wireless network can connect and browse the web (and my internet radio) just fine. Using a D-link Dir-655 Extreme Edition router.

Found the following in Event Viewer:
Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x1A1132E85798. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
TCP/IP failed to establish an outgoing connection because the selected local endpoint was recently used to connect to the same remote endpoint. This error typically occurs when outgoing connections are opened and closed at a high rate, causing all available local ports to be used and forcing TCP/IP to reuse a local port for an outgoing connection. To minimize the risk of data corruption, the TCP/IP standard requires a minimum time period to elapse between successive connections from a given local endpoint to a given remote endpoint.
A request to allocate an ephemeral port number from the global TCP port space has failed due to all such ports being in use.

The following doesn't fix it: (All tried after losing connection)
In command prompt "ipconfig.exe /release & ipconfig.exe /flushdns & ipconfig.exe /renew"
Restarting the following services(including their dependencies): DHCP Client;DNS Client;Wired AutoConfig;Wlan AutoConfig.
Resetting the usb hubs controlling my Ethernet and Wireless Lan via Device Manager.
Bypassing the router. (Direct connection to Charter Communications Modem, Model SB6121)
Reinstalling Windows 8

What does fix it:
Restarting the computer.

I shouldn't have to restart my computer every time. Will someone help me fix this? I'm very computer savvy, but I'm stumped on this one. I also have Teamviewer and am willing to allow assistance thru Teamviewer.

I'm running the same router, good one for sure. I've never seen or heard of this problem before to be honest and I've seen about all of them. It's acting like the router is causing the problem with the DHCP errors but I doubt that is the case.

Most likely the problem is caused from Avast but I'll leave the choice to keep running Avast it up to you.

I took your advice and uninstalled avast. I am still having this problem. Any more suggestion?

It would appear that based on the error message in event viewer your machine may have a large number of TCP/IP sessions active and has may have used up all available source ports hence the reason for being kicked off. A restart force closes all sessions therefore allowing connection.

In a command prompt can you type the following and then upload the results so I can see what sessions you have active:

Code:
netstat

Note   Note
It may take a while for the command to complete, This is fine as the machine is trying to resolve IP addresses to hostnames

That appears to be fine and in fact you have the least amount of sessions I've seen, compared to average users :geek:

When the network kicks you off, what applications are running (Including backgroup apps such as skydrive and metro apps) that would connect to the internet?

Can you type the following and upload the new results to see if there is a suspicious process creating any sessions as a lot of malware, particularly worms will try to perform this attack to lock down your online communication, making it more difficult to remove.

Code:
netstat -b

Chrome, googlemusicmanager, googledrivesync, razer gamebooster3, steam, splashtop streamer, smart defrag 2, unified remote, logitech setpoint.

Also, as far as I can remember, I only see the problem start up while using chrome, even though it kicks me off the internet for everything else, including IE. Also, I've restarted my computer since the problem, so idk if these netstat logs will help at all.

Chrome can cause a lot of sessions however so can any other browser.

How many tabs are open at any one time when such event occurs?

Typically when you go to a website your machine creates a session with the web server and is then normally redirected to other servers which it then needs to create sessions with in order to retrieve other elements. For example web advertisements are stored on separate servers. This can amount in many sessions opened just for one web page, each with a source port. Open more tabs and the sessions begin to increase.

Idk, it ranges depending on what I'm doing, but somewhere between 5-15? I have Adblock plus too. I have teamviewer if someone wants to take a look firsthand.

When the error happens....can you Capture the settings under Properties for your network connection details and the status box , I have an idea but it depends what those show when the issue happens.

The next time it occurs, I'll be sure to get this info. Also, probably couldn't hurt to do netstat -b as mention above.

Is that all of it?

If so your computer is making an very large gap between source ports.

Google Chrome appears the most however

Follow the second half of this tutorial and this will reset your network settings to default. Hopefully this will fix this mysterious case

Be sure to run the application as Administrator

As you cannot download it, copy and paste the code into notepad and save it as a .bat file or transfer the file by removable storage

There are other commands that need to take effect, such as resetting Windows Socket API and TCP/IP protocol stack since these both relate to TCP source ports

I'd be interested in seeing the ipconfig/all from this machine, it's acting like the network interface is jammed up with something.
