Hello
I changed my key in my router and could not get internet afterwards. I replaced the old key and then could .
I think I am supposed to place the key in my laptop somewhere but cannot find out where.
I am running Win 8 x 64 and my router is a Belkin N300.
At home, I used to make the change with the desktop then go to the laptop and enter the new key.
Now I am trying to enter the new key in just the laptop as I am away from home but when I change it, I cannot get internet.
Thank you
Peter

Firstly you will need to delete your old wireless profile as it is still associated with the old key. To do so follow this tutorial and then try to reconnect to the same network with the new wireless key - http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/20085-wireless-network-profile-delete-windows-8-a.html

Hope this helps,
Josh! :)

Hi B
That is exactly what I was looking for.
I have a couple of questions if I may; should I enter the new password in the router first, then do this with the pc? And secondly, what should I do with the desktop at home to be consistent?
Thank you very much
Peter
PS I am trying to give you thumbs up but it says I have to spread more information.

Shadow - Hello
I just saw your post. I am trying to put yours and Brooklyn's together.
Is it correct to change the password in the router first, then click the forget this network, then click view connection properties and enter the new password? All this on a wired or wireless connection?
How do I handle the desktop waiting at home, do it when I get there all together or do the same thing as done to the laptop?

Set the key as the one that allows you to connect on the machines. Go through and forget each network individually by following the above tutorial that I have listed. Once forgotten, use one machine and plug it into a wired connection on the router then change the key. Once changed remove the wired connection and then connect each device individually as if you were connecting a new device.

As for the steps for your desktop it should be the same unless you have a different version of Windows, if so what version do you have? I may be able to find a tutorial for you :)

Hope This Helps,
Josh! :)

router

Hi Josh
I tried to give you a thumbs up too but it says I have to spread more info.
Please bear with me;
1-wired to router = forget the network
2-still wired = change password in the router
3-unplug wire and select view properties where I enter the new password.
4-do the same with the desktop at home as both are Widows 8 Pro.
PS I am only trying to reset my password not anything else so do I still "Forget"?
I am reading the illustrations you created the best I can and thank you for your patience.

That is correct! :) You must make sure that you change the wireless key in the router when you are connected with a wire since you do not need a passphrase for a wired connection.

As for the rep, do not worry it is not needed my friend I am more focused on getting your problem fixed ;)

Many Thanks and Good Luck!

Josh :)
