    networking

    Hello
I am with a guest who let me use the Ethernet cable from her modem to my router then to my laptop with the second Ethernet cable.
Is there someway, for a moderately skilled user, that I can enter her network and be able to move away from the Ethernet cable I am tied to?
I did try to run the Ethernet to the router from the modem and an keep her Ethernet cable to her pc. We keep her pc off all the time and use mine.
I rebooted and tried recycling both modem and router but the router stayed orange not green.
I am trying to avoid a situation that I cannot set both her pc and mine back to where they were when I leave.
    Thank you

The only way to get away from the ethernet cables is to go wireless.

I bought the router abut 3 years ago.
I will remember to power cycle her modem when I leave. All is running well now.
    Thank you for your help.

Hi guys. I have two computers one running Win 8 and the other with XP and want to network both. I have used an old router for this task. I have set up the two IP addresses and used the ping command. Ping responded very well on both computers. That means both computers are working OK and in...
Solved Networking Question in Network & Sharing
I am having a problem networking two machines in one direction. I have a bunch of machines (Macs and PCs with Win7, Win8, Lion, and Mt. Lion). My goal is to do the networking without using HomeGroup.
