Networks icon unresponsive, can't log on after safe boot.

The icon in the lower right of my desktop tells me that I have networks available, but is not currently connected. When I click it to open the little box that has the available networks listed, nothing happens other than the icon shading changing letting me know it actually has been clicked. No box opens. Ive tried restarting and even creating a new user, but nothing worked

I got the idea from my roommate to boot it in safe mode, which I did, but now I can't log in due to it asking me for a password that i dont use. I used a 4 digit pin to log in, and it's now asking me for a password. I've tried every password I can think of, but I can't get it, and there doesn't seem to be a "I forgot my password" option.

Any help in solving either if these issues would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello mkhrrs89,

Any recent activities that might have contributed to your issue? Are you sure you laptop is free of malware? Are all associated drivers OK in device manager? If so, have you verified that aitplane mode is off because some laptops have a physical switch to toggle wifi on and off and sometimes that switch can get bumped/moved by mistake. Just a thought.

In addition to caerjack's suggestions, you could also try opening up a command prompt (while in windows) and executing the following commands:

ipconfig /release (cr)... wait for it to finish
ipconfig /renew (cr)... wait for it to finish

    Check connectivity.

    Good luck.

    caperjack,
Yes i tried right clicking and troubleshooting, but to no avail.
When i safebooted I just chose the "minimal" option.

    JustATest,
unfortunately I can try any of those things at the moment, due to the fact that I am locked out of my computer. I'm not really sure why it want's a password when I had a 4-digit pin set up with it... This issue has to be fixed first before I can do anything else with it.
