Windows 8 pro: odd wired network problem

    Dear all,

i had this issue while configuring the wired network in my laptop:
no way to add IPv4 Alternate config.

The network card is configured with "auto dhcp", i fill up parameters
for my lan network in alternate configuration , save ok it,
nothing saved, when i re-open the dialog all boxes are blanked.
Rebooted and tried several times with no luck, any clue abuot this ?
Maybe relevant : vmware player is/(was, tried uninstalling it) installed in the laptop,

    thanks, Roy.

Are you able to provide a screenshot of where you are entering your IPv4 address stack? Also how are you verifying the address? Please follow this tutorial and upload your ipconfig /all - Network Posting Tips

This can help us determine your problem as well as show you if your static address has been applied

    Many Thanks,
    Josh!

    Hi Shadowjk,
    thanks for your answer,

main network config to be obtained via DHCP (when the laptop is not wired connected to my LAN):

    Alternate configuration:

    all boxes blanked

ipconfig all screenshot (network is working actually ...)

The alternate IP address is used if your machine is used on multiple networks. Your machine by default will use the address assigned in the General tab however if that does not work it will then transition to the alternate configuration. In IP config you will only see the currently active IP address stack which in your case would be the General configuration.

Typically you would have the General automatically receive one from the DHCP server however if that fails then you can setup a static address to take its place automatically

I hope this answers your question,

    Josh!

This is exactly my case, the pc is a laptop that sometime i bring with me, to connect to other networks...
also i can tell you that i have no dhcp server running so i used the altenate config to set up the pc in my network,
i do not understand why alternate config network say is not user configured ("configurato dall'utente") as i did.
I would expect that with the above (see screenshots on previous post) configuration the pc do not connect at all without a dhcp server...
this is what i find strange

Did you make sure you applied the user configured address by clicking on OK? I just configured an alternate address and mine applied but was not active since I have a DHCP server on my network therefore it uses the general address stack

    thanks again Shadowjk,

Yes i am sure, i agree that your is not active because you are using DHCP, also i can see that
your "User configured" alternate config contains IP settings, mine does not, and this is the "odd issue"
i guess i only have to get used to it

I had to manually enter those settings, they did not appear out of no where

Hmm, I must say I do not know what happened

All I can suggest is to try again? When I tested it my settings applied, even after restart

One thing I can suggest is possibly booting into safe mode with networking and see if the alternate configuration sticks (This can see if a third party application is causing an issue)

To do so follow this tutorial (Option Three Only) - Safe Mode - Start Windows 8 in

Please replace all references of Safe mode with Safe Mode with Networking
