Internet not working with ethernet cable (Atheros AR8161)

    Hello!
I'm having problems with my Asus NV56VM laptop (windows 8). Whenever I try to use an ethernet cable to access internet I either get a SSL-error, the website doesn't load at all or it loads VERY slowly and not the whole website (it says that I have internet acces and that it's not limited). Wireless works fine though.
I've also tested playing some games (ex Call of duty) and it works fine for like five minutes and then I get an error message saying something about packages didn't receive correctly. So I'm guessing it have to do with not all information is transfered when I use ethernet.
According to the Device Manager I use "Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)" and the drivers is up to date.

    Things I've tried:

    • Using a different ethernet cable
    • Testing it on a different network (at my friends house)
    • Reinstalling drivers (both from Asus website and from Qualcomm's)
    • Disable wireless
    • Empty cache/cookies
    • Restarting computer/router/modem
    • Turning off firewall
    • Searching for virus (didn't find any)
    • Ipconfig /release /renew
    • Tested it on different browsers (I also affects games though)
    • Formating my laptop
    • SSL and TSL is enable

I'm not that great with computers so sorry if I'm not so clear with everything and if there is something I've missed please let me know.

Would appriciate some help on this!

This looks like a physical issue with your connector not picking up all 8 pins on the head rather than a setting problem since you have completed most troubleshooting techniques. If this is the case you may have to invest into another internal or external ethernet adapter.

Could you please complete the following command in command prompt and after 1-2 minutes terminate it with the following keys CTRL+C. Once done please post back your results

    Code:
    ping www.google.com -t
    Note   Note
The command needs to be typed exactly as seen above including any spaces. Feel free to copy and paste if it is easier

    Many Thanks,
    Josh!

Let's say I would buy an external ethernet adapter. From what I can see you connect these into the USB-port. Will this be lowering my internet-speed drastically or will it be pretty much the same?

The external adapters would depend on your download speed as well as what cable you are using. A cat5e cable has a maximum bandwidth of 100Mbps. A USB 2.0 port has a maximum bandwidth of about 450 - 500 Mbps maybe slightly more. This would not affect your internet or LAN speeds. That being said if you are using cat6 cable which has 1000Mbps bandwidth then yes you will find an impact therefore it would be better to either use a USB 3.0 port or use an internal network adapter using PCI.

As for the ping test it seems to show a relatively stable connection however this is a short time period of monitoring. Have you tried using the cable on a different port on the router? I want to be sure that this is a physcial problem and not something that could be solved by changing a setting

Yep, testing switching around the cable and also tested another cable. I also tested it on another network and it didn't work, so I guess it have to do with my computer.

What type of cable are you currently using (Cat5,5e or cat6?)? Also what is your download speed for your internet connection?

Before you go out a purchase anything can you please upload a screenshot of your duplex for the NIC:

To do so please open the folder attached and follow the steps to ensure that your NIC is set for auto negotiation. Once done please monitor and see if this solves your problem

Please restart the machine after applying the duplex change

    Hope This Helps,
    Josh!

Im abit confused of what you want a screenshot of (: (NIC?)
As for the speed and duplex it is already set to auto negotiation.
The cable I currently using is a c5e.
According to my wireless on the computer, and all the other computers in the house, my download speed is ~17 mbit/s and upload is 2 mbit/s (which seems about right)

NIC = Network interface Card or simply put - your Atheros AR8161

If it is already set to auto negotiation then unfortunately all I can suggest is to use another card Based on the cable type you use and your download speeds you should not receive any limitations if the external card is plugged in using USB 2.0

No worries, I hope it works! Again I apologise for not finding another fix

Please post back your findings if you can so I can either mark this as solved or find an alternate solution as other people may be having a similar issue
