I have a new computer with window 8. My upload data usage has skyrocketed since installation of my new computer and windows 8. Part of this increase is picture uploads to skydrive, I think. I am trying o sort out what is causing the big increase in upload data which has exceeded my ISP upload data cap. Does anyone have experience with this issue?

If you're using skydrive (or any other cloud storage, this is not Windows 8 or skydrive specific), you will have increased upload costs. Beyond that, there is nothing in Windows 8 that has a very large upload footprint out of the box. All you have to do is disable skydrive and see if your costs go down.

You could be using some third party app that uploads data, but this would not be anything related to the OS.

disable skydrive?

By "disable skydrive" did you mean remove my PC from skydrive.com? Or is there some other method to disable skydrive without removing my PC from skydrive?

You can also try turning on Airplane mode and turning off all the live tiles in Metro. :)

Thanks for that info. I don't have a wireless network because I removed my router and am ethernet connected to the internet as part of my troubleshooting. Removing many unused tiles from Start dropped my upload usage 2 - 3% per day. I have yet to figure out how to remove "Store" which, I think would drop usage more. A big culprit was sky drive which dropped almost 10% in a day (and continues to drop daily) when I removed my PC from skydrive.com. I intend to reinstall my wireless network when I get this usage problem solved so thanks for the network info.
