Create a network between 2 computers

I would like to create a network between my Windows 8 laptop and a headless Linux box. I need to be able to browse an HTML file on my laptop that is being served by the Linux box. Note it is a direct link between the 2 computers; this connection needs to work at times without Internet. How would I create such a system?

You would have to install a second NIC card into the Server Box - Use that for Local Networking. Set up IIS to host a web server from the server. You could use WebMatrix to set up the HTML file. You load it un into Webmatrix and then run the Web Server, I've been able to do this with my Blog site made with Azure to test it before I posted it live, you could easily just keep the Webmatrix IIS server running. Otherwise you would have to use the Management App that comes with IIS.
