    Wi-Fi as default

    Hi,
I have been having some trouble maintaining an internet connection with an ASUS Q500 and Windows eight . I did un-check the power saving on the wireless adapter. I noticed that a broad band connection was set as the default. There was no opportunity to set the wireless connection as the default. The ASUS is always used with a wireless connection to a local home network.
Is there a way to make the wireless connection the default?
    Thanks
    Frank C

Sorry if I misinterpreted your post but are you saying that your machine is connected by ethernet and wireless but you want wireless as default?

    Sorry,
    Josh!

A wired connection is seen by Windows as the Default because it's usually the fastest connection. If you want to use wireless just unplug the Ethernet cable or go to Device manager and disable the Wired connection, the wireless connection will automatically become active.

Thanks for the reply Keith and Josh,
I did remove the default on broadband but I still have the problem. The laptop looses the connection every day or so. Reboot always brings it back.
Josh, I am not at all expert in the nuances of networking. The laptop is only connected via wireless. It is not connected by cable to the router. What should I send to show the network configuration?
I have attached screen shots of netstat, adapters and net connections. What else would help?
I very much appreciate the help.

    Chev 65,
Thank you for your response. I missed it on the first reading. The ethernet is disconnected.
Would it help to change the binding order as shown by netstat?

So the actual problem is that the wireless connection is dropping out for some reason.

The default connection type has no bearing on this type of problem and wireless dropouts are a very typical problem. If you can post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all from this machine it may be helpful.

In the mean time you should update the driver for the Intel N 2230 NIC and the bluetooth, the link below shows some recent drivers.

    Chev65,
Thanks for the response. Did you notice on my screen shot of Network Connections that Bluetooth was disconnected? Does Bluetooth need to be connected for Wi-Fi to work reliably?
The Intel WiFi Wireless LAN Driver is V15.5.6.48. I can't determine from the link which download is applicable. I don't want to make things worse!

When you go to the link I posted to the Intel site, click where it says which OP system, I assume you are using Windows 8 64 bit?

Set that as the Op system, this will narrow your choices to just the wireless and the Bluetooth driver, those are the ones you need and they are dated 5/23/2013 so they are very recent and up to date. This may or may not fix this once a day drop out problem which can be very difficult to diagnose. This is why starting with the latest possible driver is important.

The Bluetooth driver is just to support any type of Bluetooth hardware you may have.

The drivers you are using now appear to be non WHQL drivers which means they aren't Windows approved.

I notice on your Ipconfig you are using 192.168.1.1 for both your gateway and DNS Server.

Could I suggest you try changing your DNS settings in IPv4 properties to 8.8.8.8 primary and 8.8.4.4 as secondary. These are public google DNS servers to see if that makes any difference.

Does the dropout occur at a specific (or near enough ) time of day as you may be getting interference from something electrical in your property, a neighbour or a local wifi channel.

Couple of programs which may help:

insider which is free for home use or

Vistumbler paid app but get 15 day free trial
