How delete Homegroups in windows 8

    Hi,
I have 4 PC's, 2 laptops and 2 desktops, all running windows 7 or 8. Somehow I set up homegroups or workgroups
on each one over the past few years and each time each one gave me a complicated password during the setup which i neglected to record because i thought i'd never want to use networking. I move files around via usb keys and dropbox, and lately skydrive. Now, however, I do think it's time to set up a network for sharing files between the PC's directly via my router.
What I want to do is delete all of the stuff i already did, and start over. I googled endless various combinations of how to delete homegroups, etc, but couldn't find out how to delete them.
One result said that if all pc's leave the group, then the group goes away, but i was unable to find out how to leave a group. I'm not really a moron, I'm just a babe in the woods when it comes to networking my PC's, and the terminology is confusing. Is it possible to do what I want? you know, highlight a file somewhere, hit delete, and the group thing goes away?
    Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello thehermanator, and welcome to Eight Forums.

That would be correct. You could have all PCs leave the homegroup for the homegroup to no longer exist. The tutorial below can help show you more on this.
Afterwards, create a homegroup on a PC, and have the other PCs join the homegroup.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks for your reply. I studied the links you recommended and have a better understanding of how it works now. I have been unable, however, to set up a network. On a win7 system I found the password, but when I use it on the other systems, what I get back is, "windows is unable to find a network" message. And yet, it found one because it asked for the password. This happened on both a win7 laptop, and a win 8 laptop.

I have, I hope correctly, concluded that I can't delete a homegroup, and that because there is one already there, I can not create a new one, so basically there is no way for me set one up without wiping out the drives and re-installing the operating systems.

thanks again for taking the time to help me with this.

Double check the requirements at the top in each tutorial to make sure that all PCs that you want on the homegroup are set properly.
