Solved No internet connection when main PC is turned off.

Hi everyone, I am currently having an issue with my network. Basically, every time my main PC is shut off, the wireless will drop it's internet connection. Devices will still connect to the wireless, but there will be no internet connection.

This had happened before, about 5 months ago, and I had fixed it by unchecking the TCP/IPv6 in my network adapter but now the same issue has come up. My main PC is wired direct to the router, which is a D-link DIR-655. As long as my PC is on, then the internet will work fine. If it is off, then at some point the connection will get dropped and not come back on until my PC is turned on again. Any help on this issue would be great.

Control Panel/network sharing, right click on the network connections and choose properties, then sharing - maybe something there will help.

I have the same router, it will require a reset in order to work as it should, you will need to set up the wireless settings and type in the DNS servers after resetting the router.

Unchecking IPv6 is not advised for any reason, you are only masking another problem by doing that.

I could not find anything that I have maybe changed in the past little while.

I enabled IPv6 again, and went into the router settings and there was a newer firmware version so I upgraded to that, which reset the router and it still turns the internet off when the PC is off.

So it seems if my wired PC is off and I disconnect the ethernet cable from the router, the internet comes back on for the other PC's and devices and works perfectly, so I am thinking it has something to do with the ethernet port and the way it is set up. At least for now whenever I turn off my PC I can just unplug it as a work around, but it is a very odd problem and I haven't been able to find a whole lot of people with similar issues.

You might want to check and make sure that the modem is plugged into the correct "WAN" port on the router, everything else uses the LAN ports but I'm sure you knew that.

Yeah, tried that. I cant find what has changed, as it was working fine for months and now all of a sudden wont work with the PC is off.

Is your pc wired into the WAN port of the router or into one of the numbered jacks?

It was wired onto the number 2 jack, removed all other cables and put it in number 1 and still does the same thing.

Maybe you should post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all from this machine. I have a feeling we are dealing with more than a messed up router here. :)

Looks totally normal to me. No problems there at all.

Try running the file below which will reset everything related to the network stack and flush the DNS etc.

Havent posted in a while but whatever that file did seemed to work, after that I was having network issues with my modem but that turned out to just be a coincidence and an issue on their end. Thanks everyone.

Yes the reset file fixes anything to do with winsock or problems which are TCP/IP stack related, it also resets the DNS cache among other things.

Glad it worked for you. Feel free to mark as solved.
