    Problem Securing Home Network (long but informative post)

    Does anyone know how to stop connections from attaching themselves to a network - or at least that's what I think is happening!
    Please bear with me while I explain and illustrate.

    The Problem (from my perspective): I have been having problems with my computer(s) for about six months now to a point where they will become un-usable - certainly unstable and crash often with data being irretrievable I can save a file (in what was a very organised file structure) only to have the file 'misplaced' shortly thereafter or changed/almost encrypted at times... I once found my desktop 9 layers down in a file system which was not associated with anything I would normally look at... (and before you ask, yes I have security on the system and am vigilant about passwords etc).

    I have had lots of problems and I've been researching all this for six months now and given that I spend most of my time in front of a computer I have developed a very keen and intimate knowledge of my systems and how they are structured. Sadly I do not possess a huge knowledge base of how these things work.

    What I do know however is that my pcs can be working perfectly for a period of time (the length of which is random) and then suddenly everything shuts down or slows down often eventuating in two or three of them just dying in the exact same moment and for no apparent reason (from my perspective anyway).

    My use of the pcs had not changed significantly, I use them for work and basically write reports and ebooks I have no sophisticated other programs. Basically the programs I use are those which relate to word processing, e-books, some power point programs and accounting. These days however I have started the process of constructing my own websites so appropriate programs associated with this are now on the pcs. Fundamentally however, my use of my pcs has not changed in over 20years (altho obviously the programs and operating systems have).
    I have no idea why this has been happening but I need to get this sorted because it is effecting my business and my ability to function appropriately. What I noticed recently is that the 'slowness' appears to relate to the sudden appearance on my network of the following:-

    ********************************************
    Ethernet adapter Ethernet;
    Tunnel adapter isatap. {1DDEE1********* etc}
    Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2.
    Ethernet Local Area Connection;
    Wireless LAN adapter Local Area Connection *11;
    Click image for larger version

    ********************************************
    Now these shots were taken before I knew about the ipconfig /all command, but I have just run that command and can provide if required.

    As well as the above, I am currently using a Hawaai toggle for internet access which is the only connection about which I have any direct knowledge or input in terms of having plugged it into the usb port and pressed 'enter' when told to do so... however this does change in configuration and properties at around the same time the above connections appear (i.e. it has changed from a 3G toggle type setup to unnamed mobile broadband connection - below are current versions of the connection all of which remain on on of my systems - the only one i actually 'setup' is the 'new profile1')

    What I have done about this (in my limited knowledge): As per instructions I read somewhere in my research I have flushed the dns and re registered dns which really has no impact, so upon further research I have on several occasions used the device manager to disable or uninstall the (in my view offending) connections and I end up with this - see below (this looks like it does for a short time after I have done a clean install or recovery process -although Im not sure about the Ethernet *11 entity) ....

    Now these may not be strange to those who know about this stuff but for me this is abnormal. Firstly I have had (over recent months) the need to restore all of my systems and when they are restored none of these 'connections' are on the system and I have no idea how to set them up and I have no idea how they become attached to my system.

    If the above is 'normal' then I accept that and will continue on my search for a reason as to why these systems have so recently become incredibly unstable. If however there is something strange in all this, can someone please help me or provide a link to some resource which might help me stop these intrusions.
    I will be grateful of any help you may be able to provide.
    Chris

    I received this response in my email, but cant find it in this thread - still getting used to this forum format so I apologise if I'm not doing this correctly..

    I would need to see the entire ipconfig/all in order to help you with this problem.

    so I have attached the ipconfig/all screen shots below along with a listing of network connections on my system at the time. I really hope you can help me ...just to give you an idea of how unstable the system is. it has taken me over an hour to get this online (and i don't type that slowly nor am i incapable of managing a couple of cut and paste screen shots) ... the wifi suddenly stopped and wouldn't go back on - still haven't worked that one out but that happens regularly as indicated above and then the other toggles wouldn't work after working perfectly well previously they just turn themselves off randomly (i'm unable to use my home network atm because it appeared that that was causing me the problems - apparently not)

    something else i found today is an openvpn on the system which i have never seen before nor have i set up (don't know if that makes any difference but every time i tried to delete or shut it down it just popped back up again as do these toredo and isatap connections )..

    anyway, as requested here are the ipconfig/all screen shots

    thanking you in anticipation
