    Join AD Domain with shortname?

Yes, have been joining machines to AD domains for 10 years, 2K , XP, Vista, 7, have always used the short domain name to join. Have been joining machines to NT domains & before that OS/2 LAN Server since ~1991.

(ie for example, domain is CONTOSO.COM then you can join the domain CONTOSO and it figures out it is CONTOSO.COM)

All WINS, DNS, AD Controller IP numbers and names are the same between a 7 machine and this 8 machine.

But 8 WILL NOT join the domain by just giving it CONTOSO, it has to have CONTOSO.COM to join. What's with that?

Anyone know how I make Windows 8 join by giving it CONTOSO?
    Windows Developer Preview.

It hard to diagnose your issue as it's your network and AD related...but yeh it's working for me.
