Enable/Disable Airplane Mode with CMD or shortcut?

Anyone out there knows if it's possible to enable/disable (turn on/turn off) Airplane Mode either using CMD or with two separated shortcuts (i.e. desktop shortcut 1 enables Airplane Mode, desktop shortcut 2 disables Airplane Mode)?

    Hello TheRene,

I'm not aware of a way to toggle this with a shortcut, but you might see if using the "Networks" shortcut below may help make it easier to turn airplane mode on/off from the Start screen or where you like.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks for your reply

That is somewhat what I'm looking for, it does help - thanks!

The reason I ask is because I am using my PS3 Controller alongside with Pinnacle Game Profiler to basically control Windows. And very often I change my DNS settings in my Router settings, and to "enable" this setting without rebooting, I need to either disconnect WI-FI and enable it, or enable/disable airplane mode.

So in other words it would be really nice to have a shortcut to enable/disable either Wi-Fi or airplane mode.

There is three ways I can map this to a specific button on my PS3 controller.
    1. Create a .bat file, with a cmd command to enable/disable Airplane Mode (then create a shortcut to that .bat file, with administrative rights in properties)
    2. Create two desktop shortcuts, one enables Airplane Mode (or just disables Wi-Fi), the second disables Airplane Mode (or just enables Wi-Fi)
    3. Map a keyboard shortcut (if one exists) to the PS3 controller

I could use the Fn key + F10 and map that to Pinnacle Game Profiler, but as the Fn key is not even recognized (to my understanding) by Windows, it's not possible to emulate an Fn command.

So in other words, is it possible that any of the above would be possible to do in the feature (or now )?

    Rene,

I'm working on a couple of autoit scripts to create shortcuts for what you are wanting to turn airplane mode on or off in one click. So far they are working perfectly. I'm going to create a tutorial on this later tonight, and will post back with a link to it when it's finished.

    Here you go Rene.

Fresh out of the tutorial oven. I hope they will work for what you wanted.

    Thank you for your reply

I have tested the two .exe's both in Windows, and with my PS3 controller. On my PS3 controller I have added a cycle command, so when I press L1 button for the first time it launches "Turn On Airplane Mode.exe", when I press L1 button for the second time it launches "Turn Off Airplane Mode.exe".

It works absolutely flawlessly, really good work

Thank you so much for doing this, I only wish there were something I could do in return!

    Again, thanks a 1000 times

How about a Windows RT solution

Stumbled across your Airplane Mode toggle today. Thank you. But, the EXE will not work with Windows RT. As there is no way to disable connected standby on a Surface RT, having quick access to the Airplane Mode (wireless settings) toggle, or using a single click solution would be a (battery)life saver for RT devices.

Navigating to the Wireless Setting screen each time I wake up/put to sleep my Surface sort of defeats the whole "always ready" concept. As I only use my Surface every few days, my other option is to keep it plugged in 24/7. But that's hard to do when it's in my carry bag. Any ideas

UPDATE: Ok, never mind. Tried your Network flyout shortcut and that works fine on the RT. At least I can access it from the Start Screen with one tap. Any reason why the shortcut opens desktop mode though? Would be nice if that didn't have to happen. Oh, and thanks again.

Hello Jim, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The Airplane Mode .exe shortcut I created just simulates the keystrokes to do this normally in Windows 8.

Is there anything different in the keystrokes that you use than from OPTION TWO or OPTION FOUR in the tutorial below?
