Dell 600 (windows8) desktop networked via homegroup with Dell XPS 410 (windows7) desktop. Network is on Cisco e4200 router. Lexmark 8300 all-in-one printer connected to Dell 600 via usb. Unable to print from windows7 machine. Printer drivers installed on both machines. Driver installed on windows7 machine specifically for networked printer. Print job indicated as sent to printer on windows7 machine, but never makes it to the printer. I've tried numerous troubleshooting changes to no avail. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

With this printer, is there any way you can connect it using an Ethernet cable or a wireless connection?

I say this because USB support for printers is really not working well these days.

This printer does not have wireless capability. At the moment I could run usb cable from printer to windows7 machine, but the machine will soon be across the house in my daughter's room and she will have to be able to print to this printer via the network.

chev65,
Sorry, I just realized you said "Ethernet cable." Windows 7 machine is currently connected to router via Ethernet cable as well as wireless usb network adaptor as I was troubleshooting possibilities with network causes.

You should try setting it up using just the Ethernet cable and ditch the USB, you will need to install the correct version drivers on the machines that need to use the printer.

This printer is used to print from multiple laptops and one remote desktop. (thus the need for wireless network printing) When all devices were using Windows 7 OS, all devices were able to send print jobs via the wireless network. Now that the new desktop is a Windows 8 machine, none of the devices will print via the wireless network. Is there some setting that has to be different on the Windows 8 machine? Networking seems to be pretty much the same as it was in Windows 7. The print jobs show up in the queue on the originating devices, but never in the queue on the host (Windows 8) machine.

You will most likely need to find printer drivers which are specific for Windows 8 although Windows 7 drivers may work.

You would be much better off going with a network printer where you are connected with Ethernet or wireless directly to a router or switch rather than trying to go through another machine with a USB connection.

It may help to go into the Windows 8 firewall settings, click on "Allow an App or featrure through Windows firewall" to see if you can find the printer or USB connected device, so that you can allow it through the Windows firewall.

Tried connecting the printer directly to Windows 7 machine to see if I was able to send print jobs from Windows 8 machine to Windows 7 machine via wireless network. After performing "add a printer" on both machines and then trying to print, I got the following:
